When I look at some of the Daytona's and the options they have I wonder who ordered them, some have power windows, drum brakes disc brakes 4 spds Dana's on the column shifter no power steering all kinds of options and no options. I heard customers ordered them, I heard the dealer did, then I heard stories that some dealers wanted/ordered them & never got them, if that's the story then they didn't order them.  I heard some dealers got them and didn't want them. I heard Some dealers got 2 or 3. What is the truth who did the ordering back then or were they optioned with a flip of a coin and shipped with a dart thrown at a map.

Random inconsistencies is my thinking :Twocents: My old car bought new.Show it was shipped by the daytona shiplist on 8-30 -69 to the named dealer on the list .And when they called him it was 4-25-70.And the other things as dealers forced cars and cars ordered are a case by case documentation. As they were hurrying to get cars out the door all by race date sept 14 69 .In order to race and had 1200 orders for 500 cars .But I was able relocate actual ads of several daytonas from 69-uptill 71 for sale at dealers
The sales invoice showed final price $5155.75.As I recall it had the dealer temp paperwork when it was driven off Quaker Citys Dodge lot daytona annoucement card etc.The purchasing owner gave me all kinds of papework& copies .The reciept he couldnt find was after few weeks paint flaked off window plug area,He saved the original fanbelts and everything from this 22.000 mile car parked in 1977.

Also the daytona per state totals gives a estimated idea .Of how many 426 and 440 daytonas and what states they went to

I did this a while ago using the daytona shiplist that was in my newsletters

69 Daytona list per state totals going from the current standing list number to date #501 cars from pages supplied in my club newsletter that shows the new car shipments for 69 daytonas and locations shipped to Including serial numbers and dealer number and dealer location. WOW love the Red with white interior white stripe. I was just looking at the Australia Daytona that was my Friends car from Long Island. I remember when he bought it. He said the guy had a few sitting in the barn that were wrecks that he bought in the 70's. Before my friend bought it he put gas in it and a battery and the guy said your nuts it hasn't been started in over 20 yrs. It started up.

I know Tom from swap meets he also has a 70 6 pack charger .The daytona was Dave Patiks who rescued the cars from back in the day from being crushed.Had a few in storage for years .And later Galen had a ad in MCG selling project daytonas.Dave Patik had gotten the roll over daytona from Ernie Palchances

He also had a stash of NOS parts. I think the new repro Charger quarter panels where made from his NOS set of quarters, among other parts he has also. I feel bad for him he missed the boat on the 2 cars he had. He could have sold them for way more and waited.

My guess is that the orders/specifications primarily came from the Dealerships' salesmen, with a few cars custom-specified and pre-sold to a customer before being ordered (such as the Bob Kerbs blue HemiDaytona).

Based on the information in the Dealer Invoice list that WW/NBOA published, there were WAY more orders for Daytonas than the 500+/- cars built.  That probably means they didn't resort to Sales Bank orders where Chrysler shoved cars down the dealerships throat to sell whether the dealership wanted them or not.

That's all conjecture, but it makes the most sense to me.  Of course with my :Twocents: and $0.33 of your own, you might be able to get a cup of coffee.
