Final inspection done on the 383 today

This is a video I shot today of the final test work being done on my 383 before they bag it up and give it back to me (and charge me a crapload of money). It all checked out good! It was checked at 3 different RPM speeds (30, 350 and 450) for valve adjustment, oil pressure, oil flow, proper compression, rocker oiling, leaks, etc. They also double-checked the torques, timing marks, exhaust manifold studs, main seal, etc., etc.

Dan said it right from my perspective.

I have an A833 and shifting through gears does not feel as distinct as my other cars (civic & 240sx).   

Its kinda hard to find your gears because the throw is pretty short and the shift lever feels loose

What about the camshaft? you have a new cam in there and it needs to be run in at 2000 odd rpms and most cam manufactures recommend you do not excessively crank the motor with the starter, it needs to fire right up  and go to the 2000 rpm mark.
Your engine has got full valve spring pressure and there spinning it to 450rpm.
I would be curious about the cam.

I'm no expert but unlike excessive cranking in a car where things aren't lubed very well they use a high quality cam lube prior to each test which is applied directly to each lobe before the engine turns. In addition there's a constant supply of oil being pumped into the engine (you can see it slinging in the video).

Yep it can hurt paying that bill, but then again I never have had anybody else put an engine together for me. I
have evan done my friends engines. But you will be one step closer, and happy as a pig in slop with that bullet home 

I to have never seen that engine prime machine before, old school, but it does give you piece of mind, and takes the
machine shop of the hook ''in some cases'' if something does go wrong later.

383? or did you go with the ''keep it in the back of the garage for resale idea'' and use another 383?

I decided to rebuild and use the original engine although I did buy an extra 1970 383 block that I was planning to use. I finally decided that I didn't want the original block sitting around taking up space and collecting dust/rust. I sold the extra 383 block already.
