Here's specs on some reasonably priced wheels I got for the Charger while I make the transition to a touring build. The Pilot Super Sports have transformed the car vs the 215/295 Coopers I pulled off.

Front:
275/35R18
18x9.5"

Rear:
295/35R19
19x10.5

Looking good!  :2thumbs:  Did you have to modify the wheel openings to get the 275's on the front?

Thanks! I massaged the front fenders out about a half inch just in case I had some flex while turning and hitting a bump simultaneously. It's been working well so far, no rubbing and the car has much improved turn-in with the wide fronts. And I can't recommend the Michelin PSS's enough, compared to 5-10 year old tire tech like the PS2's they are a big improvement but compared to 25-30 year old "performance" tires it's like driving a whole different car!

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I know the wheels aren't going to be popular with most lot of guys here, but hell, I like different. I wanted to give it a bit of a gritty road race/Trans Am feel but a bit more modern like the current Hellcat and SRT designs.  The wheels are based on a 90's Japanese design from Work called the Emotion... they're also actually a dark bronze color but you can't tell in these pics (digging my own grave here lol).

New Weld Prostars (15x8 with 3.5 bs and 15x10 with 5.5 bs) with M/T sportsman S/R (28x10 and 30x12). I did have to use 1/4" spacers on rears but fronts fit no problem.

Very Nice !
IMO, You NAILED it  :2thumbs:

So I am wondering, would the 15 X 9 pro Stars on the 4.5" B.S. eliminate the need for the 1/4" Spacers on the rear ?
How is the rear clearance outwards to the 1/4 panel lip ?

yes that should work, but all cars are a little different.

Bombsquad and 303, both cars are fantastic. Totally different style wheels, tires and stances and they both are killer   :2thumbs:   :2thumbs:

Thanks and I agree, both look great and everyone should build it the way they want.  I am fortunate enough to have a '70 Cuda that I built to look more "road course" low and tight suspension/steering.  IMHO the Charger looks great with bigger tires and I wanted more of an old school straight line strip looking car.

Hi Bombsquad !

What is your back spacing on your front wheel to get 9.5 inch to fit ?

Thank you
Don't look back, I might be gaining on you.

I went with American Racing Torq Thrust IIs.  18x8 with 4.5" backspace in front with 255/45R18.  18x10" with 5.75" backspace and a 3/8" spacer in the rear with 295/45R18.  Tires are Nitto NT555.

With the spacer in the rear I have 1" of clearance from tire to leaf spring.

The fronts fit great on the driver's side, dead center in the wheel opening.  On the passenger's side they are very close to the forward fender lip, so there's an alignment or geometry issue I'll be chasing shortly.  Ride height in the front is right at 27" to the highest point of the wheel opening.

I regret that I have not been here very much over the last couple years but I must say, I'm really happy to see how this thread has grown and all of the valuable input everyone has shared.  I can see that it has helped a lot of people and that was my hope when I started it.  Thanks everyone! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Now, keep it rollin'!   :popcrn:

This is exactly the setup I'm going with on my '68 except i did the PVD finish. Great to see that it works how do you like it?

I actually haven't put too many miles on it since I installed the new wheels.  The plan was for a quick brake conversion and get it back on the road for the rest of the summer season, but I found a few things I needed to deal with that have kept it in the garage.

In the limited amount of driving I've done on them (less than 200 miles) I haven't had any rubbing.

One plus is that they are significantly lighter than the Magnum 500s and BFG Radial T/As I replaced.

Amazing cars fellas! Must found the perfect place about tires thanks to some help! Anyways I was wondering what would be the best tire for my 1973 charger for the rear and front. I want the widest you can get without it rubbing . Personally it can stick out of the wheel wells that doesn't bother me. But I was looking for the tires to be on 17" rims thanks guys!!

If your wheels ain't spinn'n you ain't got no traction.

HPP

No one that I'm aware of. DB Tires has a 275/50x15, but the widest 14" tire these days is going to be limited to 235-255.

Road Dog

Thanks, might end up increasing to a 15 inch rim.

I have 28x10x15's on the front and 30x12x15 in the back and was thinking about going a little smaller all the way around.  Right now for the 30x12 I have to run a spacer and even then they are rubbing sometimes on the inner well on turns. The fronts have a couple of bubbles on the sidewalls so M/T said no problem, order new ones and send these back for a refund.

So questions:
- Would a 26x8 be better than a 26x10 in the front?  I've heard that wider tires tend to track with grooves in the road.
- With 26s in the front, I'm planned to go with 28x12 or 28x10 or 26.6x11.6 (295x50). Would the 28x12's also rub, or is the whole aspect ratio changed since its a 2" shorter tire?
- I have +1" springs but also sensa-trac shocks with coil overs that I want switch out with Bilsteins.  Should the car lower a bit with out the coil shocks?  I want to keep the wheel well full of tire and like the wide track look too.  So my concern with the 295x50 is they would be too short (30 down to 26.6).

Open to another suggestions too.

Thanks!

Will I be able to fit a 15"x10" rim with 5,5" BS set ut with BFG's 275 60 R15 in the rear of a 1970 Charger? I currently run 15"x8" with 3.75" BS with the same BF tire (275 60 R15)
