We are leaving mid Mo thinking of heading for Texas maybe New Mexico. Just going to wing it, any suggestions on places to stop. We are wide open to possibilities.

The wife loves caves so I will definately suggest that one. I will think about Colorado but not sure about going that far north. We will see.

My wife and I drove out west to Phoenix earlier this year. We followed I 40 and Rte 66 all the way out ther. New Mexico was one of our favorite places to explore. Tucumcari, right on Rte 66 was interesting with all the old motels, diners, neon road sign nostalgia, etc. We stayed at a motel where each unit had its own attached car garage and the rooms were decorated in 1930's style.very cool. The BlueSwallow Inn I think was the name.
Santa Fe was a cool place as well, City goes back to the early 1700's. lots of great places to stay, restaurants, art galleries, beautiful scenery. Farmington NM was a nice drive for scenery, old Indian ruins. We spent 5 days in NM on our drive as we found it fascinating. It is the "Land of Enchantment".

Well it looks like we are going to leave the 19th and head to wichita, ks. to meet up with some friends. Then Friday head for Tucamancari, nm spend some time there before heading to Carlsbad NM, then probably on to San Antonio to meet with some more friends for dinner and check out the river walk area. Then probably start heading back towards Missouri in some direction or the other.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Say hello to our "friends" in San A, if it's who I think they are, and have a great trip!

Will do John

Heading out Thursday morning to just take our time and see the sites. Anyone who has every followed me on one of our trips can vouch for the fact it will be a challenge for me. I usually get a destination in mind and won't stop till I make that dest. if at all possible.

Mike you can do some cave exploring near San Antonio also.  Wes and Geri recommended the place to us and we enjoyed it.  There's an awful lot to do in that area.  Enjoy!
