Proper distributor?

should this have a gear on the shaft or does the bottom of the shaft engage the engine?

That distributor shaft is correct

Look down the hole for the distributor. There should be a gear in there with a slot in the middle - the tip of the shaft fits in that slot. If you dont have one in there your fuel mileage will make Al Gore as giddy as a school girl!

That about covers it! Gonna talk to al gore about gravity powered, gas saving green technology. Gonna be alot of cars at the bottom of the hill....
