The program was pretty good.   They did not touch on the main reason the tires came apart, which was the rough track surface.   Despain did not talk about the Pogo Effect momentary blackouts and nausea some drivers experienced.  It was true, and would have made an interesting sub plot.

Good show but you are right Doug. The Pogo Effect and Dodge spoiling Fords day with their car named after the race. A lot to talk about in a 1 hour show - some things had be left out I guess.
Only a few seconds of the K&K car.

Nice background with the construction, George Wallace etc.

Didn't know that Leroy decked Big Bill....I wish someone would deck Brian!  :icon_smile_big:

Tim said he personally ran the car quite a bit earlier in the day before they filmed as he had the track all to himself.   He put Despain in it for a couple laps and he picked up a screw in a tire (raised catch fence mods).   They had to scramble over to the Hall of Fame to get another wheel with a 35 year old tire.   Tim said he would not trust that tire at 50 mph.   That also explains why the footage with Despain behind the wheel was so late in the day and they needed lamps to get the shot.

"he had the track all to himself"

How cool would that be !!!  In my own car, not to mention THE #71 !
