shifts too hard

when im in drive it seems that when i go 1 to 2 its hits 2 really hard and not a smooth shift. its a 904 trans i just rebuilt it, do u think i adjusted the second band a little to tight?

i didnt touch it really just cleaned it? is the valve body what the filter bolts too??

yes it is....what about the shift lever or any springs or anything related to the accumulator, etc.  did you replace any of that stuff?

also, fwiw, it's supposed to actually be easier, yes easier on the transmission to shift hard and fast than it is to have a long overlap and a smooth shift.

oh i didnt know that haha i thought it was a bad thing and no my rebuild did not comewith any springs i replaced all the clutches bands and bearing and gaskets

well if you never changed anything in the valve body, or anything spring related, then you may have overdone the adjustment on the bands....or is it that your trans was slipping so bad before that you never really felt how the 904 was supposed to shift?  where did you get your band adjustment information?

By the way, you made sure you didn't lose any checkballs from the valve body, right?

yea it was all there, my trans before shifted horribly and there was no second really it was pretty much gone. i did them by tightening them to 42in pounds then 4 complete turns in i think, but i didnt have a inch pound tool so i used a ft pounds and went 4 ft pounds but idk if that tool can read that low accurately

i think you should double check your information.....usually you tighten to the specification and then turn OUT to get your adjustment....something like tighten to 72"lbs. and then back off 1-1/2 to 2 turns.

also, is your line pressure adjusted correctly?
