how do you tell  if  the motor is the original to the car?on a 1969 charger my engine num is 2468130

1BAD68

depends on the year but 69 and later you can look at the vin# and compare to the stamping on the block.
On my 68 the vin# isn't stamped on the block.

Dans 68

:iagree: Though some '68's do have a partial vin stamped by the flange adjacent to the oil sender unit. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,38316.msg421557.html#msg421557

That's the casting number.  The number you are looking for is on the right side of the block, stamped on a flat machined surface adjacent to the oil pan.

Dans 68

Yes, that is the casting number. As already said by 375instroke look for the stamping by the oil pan.

My car does not have the VIN stamped on the block either. I have a Dec 67 build date. When was yours built?

Dans 68

My build date was Dec 26, 1967.

I'll guess that the 3 6 67 means that the block was cast on March 3, 1967.  Probably not a block used for a '69 model year car.  Being a '67 block, it won't have a VIN on it.  Again, that was started in '69, but some have observed numbers on their '68 blocks, sometimes by where the oil pressure sender would be.  Here's what the casting numbers look like.  They are above the starter.  This is a 400 block, and you can see 400 cast into it (the one after the dash), along with the casting date in standard Gregorian, not some cryptic code like other parts.

On an RB block, codes like the date of the block, CID, some QA stamps, and repair codes like under or oversize whatever, are stamped on a flat machined pad at the top left (from drivers perspective) of the motor.

The E=1969.  Other years would be D=68, F=70, etc.  You can also see the 440 and HP on it.  I'm guessing that yours says C440 on it.

My 68 is stamped on the block back by the oil sending unit. Block Casting 2536430-7  Block Casting Date 10-20-67 or Oct, 20,67  # on back of block by oil sending unit match my VIN.

Your '68 has the actual VIN, and not the order number, or whatever it's called, on the block?

If a '68 block has a stamped number by the oil sending unit, it is the partial VIN. If the actual VIN of the car were XP29H8B123456, then the stamped number would be "8B123456" where "8" is the year (1968) and "B" is the assembly plant Hamtramck, Mi.  Here is a thread that explains it. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,38316.msg421815.html#msg421815.

If the block came in a 69 or later, you can find the VIN here on the passenger's side
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

MY Partial vin is here on my 68 RT, back of block by oil sending unit.
