I know we have a few members doing the Viper engine swap to their Chargers but I think this is the first 70 I've seen. Actually they say it's a 70 but it looks like a 69 to me. It apparently belongs to a restoration shop but does anyone know if it has been featured here before?

"This is a phenominal projects that we have decided not to finish. Cut our losses and give somone an opportunity to capitalize off of our investment. Here are the details:
The car is a 1970 Dodge Charger (Dukes Of Hazzard replica at one time)
The floor has been cut out, the frame railes have been replaced and raised inside of the body (to allow the car to sit lower to the ground).
Custom cross members have been built to stiffen the chassis.
New motor mounts have been built and welded into the car to support the Dodge Viper motor.
Brand new Magnum Force tubular K-member has been installed with large front sway bar and coil over front suspension.
The car comes with all stock parts, seats, hood, fenders, doors, glass, trunk, wheels/tires, rear end, most interior parts, front grille, lights, etc...
New Front and rear Wilwood brake kits.
2000 Dodge Viper RT-10 complete engine and 6-speed transmission with ECU & wiring harness (only 10K miles)!!!
New Cal-Track rear suspension kit with split-mono leaf springs and shackles.
New Stainless steel "Stealth" gas tank with fuel pump, filter, sending unit and straps from Rick's Hot rods.
New Taillight panel (not installed)
New trunk floor (not installed)
Various other sheet metal parts (not installed).

There is over $75K of parts, labor and materials already invested in this project, not including the cost of the car to begin with. It is well underway but a long way away from completion and we are walking away. This is a great opportunity for someone to get a killer project for roughly 30-cents on the dollar.

Our company is in a position to finish the restoration for the buyer and will happily build it to suit their needs. Please call if interested. I have hunderds of photos and all receipts that go with the car.

Good luck on getting 30K out of that  ::) He would be better off selling the parts. For that kind of cash I would buy this one:

If they are walking away from it then there's something wrong with it  :yesnod:
maybe figured they'd have to sink ANOTHER 70k into it to get it finished.

It's a pretty complicated conversion. More like got in over their heads.

:iagree:  It's hard to tell, but it looks like the firewall wasn't altered.  :shruggy:

You'll give $30k for it?  I wish you liked Challengers'.  :icon_smile_big:

I hope you're not overdoing it Dennis & feeling OK.

The shop was probably doing the car for a customer who ran outta money partway through the project and pulled the plug.  So the shop probably kept the car/parts as payment for the work already done.

Now the shop offers to sell it cheap or else make an arrangement to finish it for someone new.

I bet Mike's story is closer to the truth. If you're already $75k in the hole you aren't going to sell for $30k. You'd take the car out back and light it on fire before taking a $45k loss.

Might as well email them and ask.

Are you interested in it?........If so good luck.

Interested? Yes, but only in the same way I'm interested in Marisa Miller or a 400-acre piece of property in the country. There's no way I could touch it but I think it would be cool if I could.

Anyway, here's the guy's response to my email:

Curtis, this is a 1969 Charger.  This was a customer's project that we were building for him. This is the 3rd car we were doing for him.  The first was a 1970 Challenger and the 2nd was a 1979 Super Bee (he probably means 69).  Both of those cars are done and are in his possession.  We got this far with the 3rd when his wife pulled the plug on the finances.  It his his loss, not mine.  I am just selling it for him.

The body is decent. The doors, roof, rear quarters, trunk are good.  I can't remember what the front fenders or hood look like but I have them.  We have most of the original parts for the car.  The engine and trans are mounted but the wiring needs to be done. It needs the tail-light panel installed as well as the floors.  I do have most of that except some of the floor may need to be created as you go.  Please keep in mind, this is way more than a $45K hit!  I just found the wheels that go with the car that are not on the list... HRE custom wheels 18x8.5 and 20x10 with new tires.  These were built for the car and was roughly a $9K package.  There is also the cost of the car which was not included in my breakdown. When the customer bought it, it was a Dukes of Hazard replica and I think he paid roughly $20K.

Anyway, it is a steal for someone who has the time to part it out or finish the build.

Please let me know if you are interested. We are looking for $30K cash and want it gone this month.  I have 3-people interested already and it is a first come, first serve sale.

Those cars look pretty nice, despite the lousy photography.

The70RT

The car is no longer on craigslist. A newbie just joined over on the 70 Charger registry. I can't make out the link he posted. Probably the same car  :scratchchin:
