I have been searching for another Mopar lately. Preferably 3rd gen Charger. So I have been keeping a record of what has been for sale even close to what I want. This RR was on Ebay a few weeks ago. Never met reserve, or the guys asking price.

Now it's on Auto Trader Classics for sale by a dealer. Check out the asking price now.

I had a car for sale for almost two months.  I begrudging dropped the price & a flipper bought it.  He stepped up to the plate & showed me the money instead of beating me up on price, insulting me with offers like so many wannabes'.

I'm sure it'll be for sale with another 10k or more tacked on or at BJ Scottsdale.

You see it happen a lot.  You'll see a ride for sale and think, "wow, that's a good price."  Not long afterward someone else has it & it's for sale with a 10-70% increase.  :shruggy:  What are you gonna do?

I have nothing against someone buying and reselling cars/parts to fund a project/restoration, but this sh*t right here is what's ruining the hobby.....Dude looks like he didn't even put a coat of wax on it and now it's worth $10K more??? As long as there's one born every minute, there will be these vulchers out in force Looking to profit off someone elses misfortune...

I actually had one older guy come into the shop the other day and ask me point blank "Hey guy, I wanted to ask 'ya, do you know of anybody that has maybe fell on hard times and has any musclecars for sale cheap?" It took every ounce in me not to just hit the old greedy bast*d...I just told him "no"...This guy could care less about what the car was, just as long as he makes some cash on it...I sure wish they'd go back to the Chevy's and leave the well where I drink alone....

I wanted to buy a nice red 68 Charger for 18K a year or maybe 2 years ago at a dealership. Asked a few local members to check it out for me. The car sold because I couldn't wire a deposit in 1 day. I lost track of the car but seeing it again on the market for .... almost DOUBLE the (asking)price :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Grow a set and sell it at Scotsdale yourself?

Sorry... I'm not trying to piss in your guys coffee or anything, but I just don't get why people sell low and then complain about the people who sell high?!

It's called capitalism and the free market, and it's why is why we all enjoy he successes of this country and have muscle cars in first place!

Whats driving up prices is people with deep pockets that want the cars more than the average person can afford. Dealers do that because that's what they do. I wish I had a lot of money to have a slough of them rotating and driving them all the time. What really drove up prices is us old guys bought them cheap back in the day tore them up and didn't give a shit. Anybody that is in the car hobby pretty much looks for deals all the time. That's what funds a lot of us to fix up and restore our own. It's fun going to auctions and finding a good dea.l A lot of people need the money right now and have to sell (sorry not my fault)  :Twocents:

They can "TRY" and make a profit, or they can get just get stuck with it. I know a few greedy folks that have over 20 cars, that they will never sell.  All because the idiot thinks they are worth 50K each and only paid maybe 500 each for.  :Twocents:

The problem I am having trying to by cars across the country is, how do you do it safely? To send a guy lots of money and hope he sends you back the car take some real courage.

That's simple. You have one of us old timers go check it out. One of us is bound to be close to the cars location. :Twocents:

Maybe reread my post.  I'm not complaining at all & if you knew me you'd realize I don't complain much.  As a matter of fact more power to anyone who can make money on these old cars, I know I have.

i just added $10K to the price of the Battlestar.  :slap:

Maybe you should offer the car to Paul G. You have had it long enough to pass the flipper status

plus alot of dealers can get people financed on older cars that regular folks won't do the leg work on themselves to get financing, so its easier to get a higher price when its at the dealership, sometimes they even finance
there's a mopar only guy here in town that i always think asks too much for his cars but the inventory is always moving so............................

Now that I think about it, you don't sound like a complainer, ..... or irritable, or self promoting or anything. Just a generally pleasant guy on an even keel who can roll with it.

Have nice day.    :2thumbs:

Just rollin' with it.  :2thumbs:

"I shot the sheriff but I didn't shoot the deputy"

Wait what were we talking about? Scalping? Yes it happens all the time.  Eventually the scalpers even will fall on hard times, or just die in general... and their spouses not knowing what they have will sell them for cheap again or let them rot to where they are cheap again.  Its a cycle, it may not play out in yours or my lifetime but it will happen eventually.  Life is a record on loop it repeats itself don't worry.

All I can say is that it takes allot of money and time to restore a car. I spent 4 & 1/2 years on mine and only enjoyed one summer actually out on the street with it and it was still a work in progerss.

I was forced to sell it to pay for a divorce, and took a huge loss on it in my opinion. During the time it was on E-bay, the bids didn't even come close to the money investment and I sold it locally. The guy who bought it ended up finishing the car where I left off and it was still somewhat a work in progress for him. He ended up hitting hard times and auctioned it off also at a loss.

I saw the car on E-bay and the dealer in Fenton Mo. had the same trouble with the e-bay buyers... Everyone seems to think they can steal these cars for penneys on the dollar. Then they get pissed when their pocket book can't cover their desire. Most people would just move on to another car but there are those few who decide to be abusive and degrade your car and work thinking it would make you drop the price.

I have never had to deal with scalpers but I can't imagine them having too much more success than the rest of us selling the car.

They do because they have more money and time so they complete the "little things" the car needs and will advertise it until either it gets sold or the wheels fall off in the garage its sitting in.  It takes time to sell a car for the right price, there is no good money to be made in a quick sale.  But people like yourself need the money and they need it now, forcing one.  Whereas if you didn't need the money but still wanted to sell the car but were willing to sit on it a bit until it got out to the right person, would have made much more or at least came close to breaking even.  In fact I've heard numerous classic car sales companies say they actually ignore many of the first offers no matter what they are because for one it gives time for new offers to come in and for two it gets the offerer antsy thinking the seller has a better offer so they offer more.

Flippers and the guys that part-out cars with no intention of ever completinig anything ruin the hobby for the rest of us.  But there's always an asshole in every crowd.
