Is Firm Feel steering worth it?

I just noticed that my steering box (power) is leaking at the main shaft location.  If I'm going to pull it and get a rebuilt one anyway, is it worth the added dollars to go with Firm Feel Incs. unit?  I've been perfectly happy with the stock unit for ten years.  Thanks, Bob

I'm debating about switching from manual to power. I had a 68 with factory power steering and I think it's terrible - no roadfeel at all! downright dangerous on the freeway in my eyes.

Anyways, there are more places than Firm Feel that make firm feel boxes. Have you looked at Stear and Gear? They are cheaper and the core deposit is also less ($100 vs. $175). I think anyone who rebuilds steering boxes could make a firm feel box as I think it's just a few thinks that's different to the normal box.

I have had the firm feel stage 2 box on my 68 for 2 years now. It is a huge difference from stock. I would never go back stock. I think a few people on here run the stage 2 and like it. My vote is for firm feel.

I'm with 68 RT. My 69 has a FirmFeel stage 2 and its excellent. I don't know about other firmfeel-like makers but IMO its worth spending a few extra bucks for a proven part. Same thing goes for disc brake conversions, don't skimp, buy the best you can. Cheers

So just what does the difference feel like?  It's still easy to turn but with a different ratio?  Do they tighten up at higher speeds?  I think a lot of people run the old stock units that are not properly adjusted and have had some scary moments.  When they were new (and I'm old enough to know) they worked fine at any speed, but, of course, not up to todays technology.   Bob
