Hi all
gonna look at a 53 firedome a guys selling that has a 276 hemi v8
anyone know much about these old hemis? are they what some call a semi hemi?
i dont think decoding the VIN to see if its genuine is an issue as from what ive read hemi v8 was standard on all firedomes in 53?
any advice would be appreciated!

firedome's were actual hemi engines.  "semi-hemi" engines are considered to be the polyspherical engines (i.e. poly 318's).

that, is well, about all i know about the engines.  allpar.com has a good description of the early hemi engines if you would like to search there.

From what i hear those early model hemi's are REALLY hard to find parts for.

here's allpars' "History of the HEMI" section by linking to more specific info from here you should be able to answer pretty much any question, ALLPAR is the last word for most things MOPAR..

Those early Hemi's are REALLY Expensive to build and when your done, all you have is a $7500.00 300 HP 276 C.I. Hemi....

HotHeads has alot for the later '56-'58 354-392 Hemi....
