I'm looking for info in the 440 Source rotor. Has anyone here had to replace it with a LOCAL PARTS STORE rotor? If so, what did you order it for?

Short version= Buddy working on another buddies mopar. Lost the rotor. Called 440 Source to ask : is it common ? Guy says yes, but has no idea what else it fits or a common number for it.  I'm sorry but I just have to ask WTF??  Says: You'll just have to order another one from us... Nope. Sorry... I will never have a 440 Source dizzy. If I had to call and order and pay shipping AND WAIT for a damn rotor to come in the mail I would SHOOT MYSELF........ Come on!!! We're talking distributor rotor here. Not LAUNCH CODES!!!!!

I tried a mopar rotor thinking (what would I use if I were building something and keeping it simple)... Nope. Way too big.  Now I'm starting to think Kawasaki or Briggs and Sratton or Suzuki....  :shruggy:  Maybe KIA.....

Yeah, no f'ing clue.... but you're friend saved a few bucks buying that chinese yunk - isn't that what's important?   :eyes:

Not real sure but I'd be looking at an old SBC rotor first.

Yeah, my friends buddy spent huge money on most of the build and then started running short on cash. He used a bunch of 440 Source parts and now we can't get a decent answer out of them.

This is a stroked and blown 440 with piles of 440 Source parts including the "VALVE TRAIN"..  :rotz: I warned him long ago....

Thanks Nacho,  No. Not yet. Scotty has a rotor coming at a local parts store today that they think may be it. We'll see. I am just trying to cut to the chase figuring someone here has probably been down this road already.

I'll post up his findings.  :2thumbs:

There are many products that I wouldn't hesitate to buy from 440 Source, but then there are other parts that I wouldn't even consider buying from them... and a quality dizzy is definitely one item where I would be looking elsewhere... cheap or not, I just couldn't trust them for that type of product. If they were American made I would say yes, but not the Chinese stuff... not for a dizzy. Who knows, they might very well be the greatest thing since Skippy Peanut Butter, but I'm not willing to take that chance when I know there are several quality proven alternatives readily available.

Nacho-RT74

well, will be nice to know also if the keyed slot to the rotor meets with the right location!

This is exactly the reason I would never run any kind of aftermkt ignition system. If I can't walk into any local auto parts store where ever I happen to break down. I don't want it.

I've heard great things about the FBO system or Pertronics. but I like to be able to walk  into a local Napa and get parts for it

Well after 440 Source telling me AND scotty that there are ONLY 3 press on rotors available and it should be easy to find anywhere, he tried more than 3 and none of them are right. He ended up ordering it from 440 source. I didn't hear how much the part was over him screaming about the $15.00 minimum shipping..  :rotz:

It's not here yet.

Yes, that really does kinda suck :rotz:...  Thank you for posting the information just the same :yesnod:... it may just help someone else avoid these issues in the future. If nothing else, it may teach others that this is the kind of thing that you have to think about when making decisions on certain purchases. The availability of replacement parts (and the cost of these parts) can be an important issue sometimes, especially when purchasing an item like a dizzy, where items like caps & rotors etc. get changed out on a fairly regular basis.

Hahahahaha $15 bucks for something that weighs less than a postage stamp  :smilielol: :smilielol:  Sorry thats just funny, your friend is way too brand loyal for sure  :rotz:

I think the entire thing sucks. Yes, this kind of thing is why I post the long version of problems. All in hopes that others will learn from someone elses mistakes. This is not just cheaper parts. I have heard all kinds of problems with bigger money companies as well. Such as INDY.. They love to sell, but you just try to get technical help.....    :icon_smile_blackeye:

As of 6:PM today the expensive shipment has still not arrived.

I'm glad I took Firefighter's advice and got the Mopar distributor for my 440. There are some very inexpensive distributors around but just like the cheaper rockers, what's the downside? I still can not get over 440 Source's lack of knowledge of their own product. The 15.00 minimum for shipping is not good business in my book.

There is nothing wrong with the MP distributor....it's an excellent piece and parts are readily available over the counter. The newer units employ the Mallory advance unit which makes tailoring the advance curve a snap. This is a no brainer for the average street/strip guy !  :2thumbs:

My buddy Kevin has been running one for years in his Supercharged 440 making well over 700hp and routinely shifts at 7000 rpm.  :icon_smile_big:

Well, 440 Source did send out the rotor and it has been installed. Here are a few short vids. of the first fire up in the car.

440 w/871 BDS. Monster bottom end and weak top end. Some people just will not listen. It's in a 67 Coronet with a 727 and Dana (61) rear end. No clue on the converter. Only that it's 11"..

PS, My buddy Scotty DID NOT put this package together. He's just putting together the loose ends and tuning.
