Ever do a water pump on a 98' Saturn ...help.....

I hate to ask, but someone here may have done 1 before.
I need to do my water pump on my 98' Saturn 2 Door SC2 coupe.
It looks like a real hard one to get at.Anyone here ever do one? How hard.? I figure it never hates to ask.



Please don't say, pay t have it done, look at what I am driving, 98' Saturn.Penske did not even want one.

too bad you're far away cause I know local mechanic who could do it for reasonable price. Is it SOHC or DOHC. I would pick up shop manual and tools that are required and go for it.

I know it's way, way down there......and a bitch to get at. I had a 99 SL2.  I never changed the water pump, but I did the thermostat on it.  It was insanely expensive and located inside the water pump inlet. It was no fun, because It was 18 degrees outside!  Other than the friggen cold temperature, it didn't give me to much trouble.

i've never done one, so I won't be of much help unfortunately. But I never did one on a 99 ford taurus either and that one turned out ok for me.

They don't sell Saturns here so bear with me. Is the waterpump driven by the cambelt? Or does the cambelt need to come off in order to get the waterpump off? If you take the cambelt off I would suggest replacing together with the belt tensioner. All of this stuff is not rocket science, but you do need to pay attention. Take your time taking it apart, if you have to take of the cambelt make sure you mark everything so you don't screw up the timing and put it all together again. It should be doable for everybody that has some mechanical experience.

Thanks guys. Believe it or not I found a step by step video on You-Tube.
I would rather wrench on my 73' Charger any day. These four bangers are hard to wrench on with my big stuby hands.

then the inspection cover
then the alternator
then the belts
then some skin from your knuckles,
Bleed (alot in some cases)
cuss
learn new cuss words
throw the wrench a few feet
retreive said wrench
replace waterpump
continue list (in reverse older
Realise that you may as well replace the rotors and pads while your at it..etc.

I will NEVER work on an SL2 again !!

Not making light of your bad experiencxe or anything, but seeing as I work on these on a daily basis, it is good to hear some of the "back yard mechanic's" Stories....too funny...You should try replacing the water pump on about a '99 Chrysler with a 2.7, that is driven off the Timing chain...They are really fun when you can't get the engine to rev past 2500 RPM's because the Cam sensor phasing will not relearn where it supposed to be cause the factory paint marks on the T-Chain are marked wrong when you inastalled it...Only, you have to get the car all the way back together in order to find all this out...It's like a 7.5 HR job...

My Saturn was excellent...probably the best car I've ever owned. It had almost 105,000 when I sold it, and I was sorry to see it go.
