Second pic down, fourth paragraph down in that pic.... "Apparently attempting to keep the Charger II within the realm of a realistic street car, it is currently equipped with a 318 cubic inch V-8."

Like I said, it was supposed to get the 426 Hemi, but had the 318 poly. I also remember 'CAM telling me that the concept car Charger II was built after the 1966 Charger design was already completed. They just wanted to exaggerate the design of the production car to spark public interest.

I do see a note at the end of the fourth picture that mentions it as also being "technically inoperable" and questioning if it could run on the street. Technically inoperable could mean a bunch of things. Inoperable on the street since it didn't have bumpers? Inoperable since the shifter linkage wasn't hooked up? Who knows?

Apparently it had an engine but the article does mention the car was somehow inoperable.

I Didn't Know that the built the 66 charger and then the charger to I always though that the charger 2 came first and then the 66 charger!!

Just a rear shot of the Thunder Charger from the movie. The angle of the rear spoiler could be adjusted from inside the car.

Thanks cool sceenshot! here you can see that the back and off the tail light is stock 66 charger and that they only make the sides more like the 65 charger 2
and remove the back bumper coool stuff! :2thumbs:

Great Artikel I love it, love the question part it was a full sale clay model and then a fiberglass body great stuff by the way fiberglass!

I wonder if it is possible to make the rear end out of steel?
But because the charger 2 had no rear bumpers
The 66 model came with a different tail light all because the car needs a rear bumper!

I also think that it is probably destroyed Later on that year!
What a great car it was!!

Thank you guys for the information about this car!
Magnumcharger Thanks a lot!
Love the photos especially the color one of the car!

Is it just me or does that concept car look like a 1965 Chevy impala in the front? Hideaway headlights look much better.  :Twocents:

The 66 charger has a better front with Hideaway headlights I agree on that part, but the concept has a way cooler rear end, it give the car more speed looks longer to. :icon_smile_big:
I don't like the rear end on a 66 charger it is missing something :scratchchin: and thats the rear of the 65 charger 2  :2thumbs:

Well Baris was obviously inspired by the concept rear end- looks like he might have used the actual pieces from the concept car and grafted them onto his custom.

Nope...I've got the pics of Barris staff building the Thundercharger....from regular sheetmetal.

Here's the show handout for the '65 Charger II ......

Charger440RDN

Too long in the back to be an intermediate sized muscle car. Looks to much like a 65 chevy impala in the front to me.

6bblgt

I'd say Dodge did a real good job bringing a "close" Charger to market.  The production '66 front definitly won't be mistaken for an Impala.  They had to compromise on the rear; everybody needed bumpers, right?  The only problem I see is the wheels ....... magnesium Halibrands should've been STANDARD, at least on the HEMI cars!! :2thumbs:

There are rumors that the Charger II still exists somewhere around Detroit and I do know someone that is actively searching for it.  However, he has been hunting it for a few years now and so far, nothing.  Take that for what it's worth.
