My grandfather used to have a rare car. One of like 200 made. Back in the 90s he said that only 10 were known to still exist. When I asked him if he wished more of them had made it thru the years he said no. He said he wished his was the only one that hadn't been destroyed. I thought it was an extremely selfish outlook to have.  As far as its their car to do what they want with . That is true it is theirs to do as they wish, thank god we live in a free country. That doesn't mean others dont have the right to voice their opinion as to what those people are doing with their cars.

plus, it wont be their car forever... no one is immortal.  the more you smash, the less there are for future generations.

The future of the Charger hobby will not hinge on whether or not a few more rough shells get wrecked at car shows instead of rotting away in the woods.  It hinges on new generations of kids remaining interested + continued aftermarket support.

That is the simplest answer I have ever read when it comes to one these type topics. Good answer. :2thumbs:

Jim, you've been around since back in 05', you should know that this same kind of thread comes up often enough that the BEATING A DEAD HORSE smileys rings true.

Just to make it clear, I edited my reply above to what he was originally referring to.

Steve, just because my register says 05 doesn't mean I been here that whole time bud. I just came back to the board last Dec. That is almost a year now. I know it looks like I been here sense 05 but I haven't been though.

I would also like to add something here also, and I don't want to make no one mad, but it seems to me that when the dead horse smiley comes up, folks that posts them has no interest in the subject at all kinda but just rather just want to post something in the thread though.

Also, to the member that I posted my earlier comment to, I'm sorry for being so harsh at you, I didn't intend to be that harsh though, I'm tired of the dead horse thing when folks are having a talk about something though.

True, but attrition with the destruction of chargers will limit future generations from being able to partake in this hobby.  The more rare the car becomes, the more specific the car collector.  It will no longer become (and in some cases it has already) a hobby where people from all tax brackets can participate, but instead, just the elite rich ones.

Look at the Fast and furious movies and how many new charger fans it created. it introduced the charger to a new generation that didn't grow up with dukes. I was pissed when they destroyed that black 70 charger for no reason. But if you think about it, that charger was the star of the movie even in the brief scenes it was in. The Charger was sacrificed for a cheap thrill but the movie overall may have created lifetime Mopar fans out of the young viewers, kind of like dukes of hazzard did.

When I hear kids talk about the movie they only talk about the Charger and how they want one one day. So some good did come from these fast & furious movies. Even though the movies sucked overall. I still hate to see any charger destroyed for any reason.
