trim removal

getting ready to do some major work on the car. i need to get the trim off the front and rear windshield, drip rails and doors. also the rear around the tail light panel. what is the tricks and technicues to remove this trim without damaging it?

I think you need a special tool to take the trim off. And be careful

Windshield trim: you pry back the clip from the body side of the stainless by sticking the hook under the trim from the glass side and sliding over till it catches, you get a feel for it as you try. (Do a search to see photos of the tool and more instructions)  :cheers:

how about the trim around the drip rail?

I've done the same to my 69 in prep for paint. You will need the special tool for the front & rear glass trim. However, the drip rail trim is easy to remove using a simple bottle opener. Pick up a cheap bottle opener, round on one end and pointed on the other. put some blue painter's tape (duct tape etc) in the "mouth" of the round end to protect the trim and carefully pry it off. Go slow and like 71ChallengHer said, be careful. Pry up a small section at a time, a little at a time. The corner piece that hides the junction of the 2 pieces can be removed in the same way.
