i need my 727 rebuilding ,guy whos doing it is a very well respected mopar trans builder in the uk,says he ll do it to any spec i want,BUT WHAT SPEC DO I NEED?
i wanted to stay with the auto valve body and normal pattern PRND21,i use it mainly for street use and occasional strip runs,any ideas what spec i should get?

Use the street Hemi specs.  I think you'll get a high pressure pump, the big block bands and clutches and a high stall torque converter.  Then add a deep sump transmission pan, filter extender and an external transmission cooler and I think you'd be just about bullet proof.

Hemi parts are very expensive and the technology behind them is dated.

"What you need" is dependent on the power input. BB? SB? Modifications?

Didn't realize the hemi parts are dated.  New bands are kevlar or some similar material that lasts forever.  The old problem of band adjustment is old news.  So what is the alternative??  I still like the old specs with the new materials.  My old 69 went over 100k with the old technology but I had to adjust the bands about every 30k.  It was a 440 magnum with the 727.  Any new info??

To build a 727 to "Hemi specs" you need the Hemi front and rear clutch retainers and the matching wider band along with some front pump mods. These parts are no longer made so you're stuck with NOS or used...in either case very expensive.

The wider kickdown band proved to be of little added value because the anchor points are the same as the narrow band which winds up leaving the extra width with no clamping force; this results in the front of the band burning before the rest. The wide drum allows the use of 5 discs instead of the usual 4 but there are mods to allow the use of 5 discs in the narrow drum if desired. Also the added weight of the Hemi drum detracts from the efficiency of the trans as a whole. The 5-1 kickdown lever has also fallen out of favor because it releases slower and contributes to excessive overlap.

Great info, so do you have a recommendation??

its a 383,for now,hopefully be going for a 440 with about 500hp in the next couple of years so it ll need to be able to handle the power of that,
