When I ordered my Gear Vendors OD unit they suggested if I was going to convert from a column shift to a floor shifter that I go with the Hurst PISTOLGRIP-QUARTER-STICK. The shifter has a momentary button on top, which they have a replacement for with the same thread that can be used to turn on or off the OD. This means you don't have to mess with any floor switches (like using/changing your "brights" button) to control the OD.

From the pic, it seems like there is no housing or giant riser (like a B&M Megashifter)...perhaps you could create your own. I have a buddy seat I don't want to remove so I wonder if anyone has some ideas? I have not called Hurst yet.

I run one of these in my monte with a bench. Built a riser (not pretty) out of some scrap iron and tacked it to the tunnel. Pretty much an inverted L-shape to mount it on. Works good.
Excellent stick btw, no way you'll fudge a shift with that thing.

Do you happen to have a pic?

Are you running a manual valve body?

I got the shifter. It looks like it will work even with the buddy seat there. What you don't see in the pics is the huge plastice console/riser it sits in, which will raise it up probably 4" and consume a lot of the floor space over the tunnel there. It should look pretty slick. Anyhow, I can easily reach the stick and it seems like I won't have a problem using it even strapped into the harness. If you have short arms or are shorter than me, 5' 10" I could see you having to remove the biddy seat.

Best place for the overdrive switch is on the shifter. For a 4 speed it has to be on the shifter, here's mine

Yep exactly. GV recommended this shifter because they have a replacement switch for turning on/off the OD--which they sent me for free along with the OD unit itself.

I made the switch using a block of ally, a hacksaw and a file. It replaces the chrome piece that sits under the grips.

There's no reverse lockout on a Hurst Pistol Grip. The wire runs down the back of the shifter, you can see it in the first picture.
