When did Mopar start making two 284/.484 cams?  PN P4120235 has a 108 deg center line and PN P5007697 has a 114 deg center line for "improved driveability".
The one in my 440 is P4120235, just wondering if the revised cam is that much better?  Anybody got some feed back?

They started making them originally for the Street Hemi and it wasn't too long after that the grind found it's way into the wedge engines but I'm not sure off the top of my head of the exact year.  I have the same one as you in my 383 and it isn't a great cam for me.  The 383 doesn't carry the torque that it's bigger brothers do so having that cam just kills it a little more.  Everything in my car starts to happen at half track once it starts to get in a range where it can breathe.

I first noticed the "two" versions of cams more recently - 2007-ish...      I can't remember them printed in the MP catalogue before then...      They are the same cams with just wider LSA

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

the second cam should give a more tame idle and increased vaccum at idle.  my opinion is its still a small cam....lol

honestly if you're in the market for a cam I would suggest an Engle stick - they are the one cam manufacturer i have never had a problem with and consistantly make great power on the dyno...

But yes - it is a small cam and a dated design...   will give better idle and vac

Not in the market for a cam.
Listing on Craigslist for a guy who builds 440 crate motors, it was using cam P5007697.  I didn't recognise the number so I googled it, that's when I saw there were two cams, didn't ever remember seeing that before.  See they do it with the .509 too.
If and when I need a cam it will be for a 496, and it wont be a MP.
Thanks guys!

I know My brother was running one in his Factory B-5 Blue '69 R/T Charger way back in 1987. I'm thinking it was out in the late seventies (Direct Conn.) early 80's..

That cam might not be much on lift, but it is somewhere round 241 @.050 on duration....All around good performing cam...Has put down a many Big Block Chevy in it's day..
