What was first year metallic paint job was available on Chargers? Was it available on first gen Chargers and which colors were available in metallic, anyone know?

1966 most of the ads were buffed silver metallic. :icon_smile_wink:  I'd have to look at a paint chip but I think there were several metallics available that year.

I never really thought about it before but just looking quickly at a color availability chart it seems that all of the colors I would consider metallic have "poly" after them.  :shruggy:

I would think poly should mean polyurethane but the chemistry of those types of paint was in it's infancy in the 60s. I am just learning about the cars but am a retired paint chemist. ;D

That's what I thought but polyurethane was not available until later on.

It could be single component polyurethane where the iso is already reacted with the backbone polymer. That is much older technology but could only be applied at solids similar to lacquer. Mol weight would be lower so the finish would not be as tough as modern two part poly.
