I'm having an issue with my car's e brake pedal. When the pedal is depressed to engage the brake it holds perfectly. The problem occurs when the handle is pulled to release the brake. The pedal comes up, but not all the way (the plunger for the brake warning light is not depressed). Not only does the light stay on, but the pedal drops about an inch from where it should be just above where it starts to ratchet.

Is there a return spring for the pedal to come up all the way or can it be adjusted by tightening the cable? Everything is rust free and looks like new.

It is most likely that you just need to adjust the cable a little tighter.
