Gearhead clumsiness - nobody understands

I've been out of commission the last couple of days all cuz I had to go out to the garage over Thanksgiving.
Everyone see's me limping and asks me why but after I tell them many seem perplexed. I guess it's a gearhead thing.

I was out cleaning things up in the garage and I stood a spare 440 crank up vertically off a little to the side of my narrow walkway. Yea, you can guess where this is going now.

To make a long story short I forgot I put the crank there and while I was carrying a large box of chrome trim I was side stepping along and
My knee connected not so gently against one of the throws on the crank.  It was a pretty hard hit really and I lifted the crank slightly and knocked it over. The pain was excruciating and I am surprised I made it to the house. :icon_smile_dead:

I thought I had hit right at the quadracept insertion to the knee since it hurt so bad there but no, I hit dead on. :cussing: :cussing:

My knee swelled up like a softball and though it's mostly down now I have a huge welt across my knee cap where it almost broke the skin and I'm still limping.

After explaining to people that I kicked a crankshaft with my knee I got everything from quizzical looks to asking me why I was under the car kicking.

I'm sure some of you guys have been there right?

Forget the knee, how's the crank doing? :D

Ever use your head to test how sharp the pointy thing on the underside of the hood is that holds it shut?  :o

GTX, I did the same darn thing but it was a 71 charger bumper.   I was carrying a box and ran right into without seeing the corner of the bumper.   It put a big ol gash in my shin and took forever to heal.   I feel your pain, both physically and in pride hehe :D

I was scooting by the @$$ end of my Charger with a box of Hot Wheels and when I lifted up my back leg trying to step over a tranny my calf SNAGGED on the metal seam that is hidden behind the rear bumper. The seam was bent downward at the corner and dug DEEP into my calf. I just howled!!! It felt like a meathook was thrust into my leg and yanking on my skin...and it was so deep I thought I was going to need stitches. It kept bleeding on and off for days and I went through about 30 butterfly closures. When I explained how i did it my family just shrugged their shoulders or shook their heads...no sympathy for gearhead injuries... :icon_smile_blackeye:

my bumper was lying on the floor in my shop in the corner, next to my car. everytime i had to walk around that car, i had to step over the bumper. easy to remember. The rusty sharp corner (of the bumper core) put a few scrapes in my calfs. you would think i would learn after the first time... got both legs!

Leave some extra space when passing between the closed garage door and the front of your '69 that has the front bumper brackets mounted but not the bumper itself.

I had a bike rack on the trunk of my car.....I opened the trunk to get something out.....I forgot about the bike rack with two metal posts sticking out of the back and slammed the trunk closed with much force...I just about knoocked myself unconcious....I am very bald....so no hair to cushion the impact...I had a really nice 3 inch gash on my head as a memento. It's not a gearhed story but did involve a car.
