I was just curious as to if any of the members here have been "followed" by someone while driving your Charger, and if so, what did you do?

It happens to me every once in a while, as I'm out and about for a spin in my Charger.  Now that's not to say I'm spending more time in my rear-view mirror that looking out front to see if that car is following me- rather, I'd much prefer whoever is following me to NOT tail me all the way to my garage for obvious reasons.

Whenever this happens to me, I simply pull into a public place, like a gas station or some place like "Sonic" where there are lots of people.  Most of the time, these folks approach me apologetically- knowing I knew they were on my tail, as they were simply interested in looking at a classic MoPar and mean no harm.

I think the best approach is, no doubt, a cautious one, set in a public place as I mentioned before.  Have any of you folks been in similar situations?  If you have, how did you handle the situation and what was the result?

Be safe this holiday season!  ;D

I've been followed a couple times and mormally I just keep driving on. There was one case this past summer where I didnt. I was coming hoem from a buddies house around 2:00 am (25 min. drive home) and I was almost home (19 at the time) and It was a 3 lane  highway . I was in the middle lane minding my own business doin the Limit at 65 and this late 90's Ram pulls up right beside me and it's like a 50 yr ol man . he shoots me this weird look it's hard to describe , not like a mad one , maybe disgruntled or something. about a mile later or so later he speeds up and keeps looking back at me from the side. from there he actually slows down and gets right behind me and follows me for awhile longer. by this time he's been following me for at least 5 miles. so from there I got in the next lane ( Far left lane) and I put it down from there went to about 80-85 and didnt see him after that. Didnt want to risk him following any longer , I dont know what the hell he could have been thinking

The first year I had the General I had people follow me all the time. I would also have people see the car in the garage and pull up in the driveway and walk right into the garage. I didn't like that to much. :flame:

I have had people follow me all the way to my house, and pull up in my driveway. I don't mind it. I invite them into the garage to have a look around, and chit chat with them about cars. Usually its someone else who is into Mopars or has a Charger or something along those lines. Other times its someone who say they used to have a Charger just like my 500.
Call me mean but I have been known to see a Charger or other Mopar in a person's garage when the door is up, so then I'll stop and ask if I can see the car. Sometimes people are nice, other times people want you to leave. I have found though that if you are driving say the Charger then people are about 99 times more likely to let you check out their cars.

Chargen69

I have seriously been followed twice.  I dont like it at all.  Especially the time it happened at night.  I dont want anyone following me to my door.  Good thing is, there are plenty of country roads around my house that I know perfectly.  Neither person kept up very long.

I got followed once, but I knew it was a 'car guy'! I looked in my review mirror and saw a nice '70 two door fury following me. I pulled off the road and he followed.............we talked Mopar for some time after that. Now had it been a none classic car I would nat have even thought about doing that.

When I was driving my '56 Chevy pick-up and it was cherry I had people always getting next to me...sometimes too close which can be scary. Once had a cop pull me over just to look under the hood. Another time I had a CHP catch me doing 80mph. He got next to me and I thought for sure I was in BIG trouble. He was a CHP in a new 5.0 Mustang and he pointed forward for me to race him. I shook my head no and he grabbed his ticket pad and waved it at me, so I slightly stepped on it and so did he, so I gunned it and he did too. I shut it down when the truck started to feel unstable and he kept his foot in it and wasted me. About 1/4 mile later he rolls back next to me with a thumbs up. I pointed to my speedo and shrugged...didn't know how fast I had gone. He puts his fingers up ONE, ONE, THREE...113mph - not bad for an old pick-up.  Right about then I freaked out...I couldn't believe I just raced a CHP....and DIDN'T get a ticket.

It happens all the time. Usually the ones that follow me home are Mopar guys looking to talk shop.

I got followed a few weeks ago by a cop.  I raced him to the off ramp.  Of course I knew the guy and he was driving his 70 R/T so maybe that shouldn't count. :drive:

I get followed all the time and whenever I park my car people flock to it. Mind you it is the Blade Trinity Charger. I rarely drive it. The best times are when I take my kids to school in it. In a world of SUV's it kinda  stands out. The car is so loud it is sometimes hard to hear what people are saying as they pull up to me on the highway. I usually smile and punch it. That always gets a laugh! Cheers!

Holy Crap!  Thats a cool cop.

Ghoste

I had a very similar experience a few years ago.  I was driving along nicely in the Charger when a late model Mustang came flying up behind me and then kind of hung in there.  I found it annoying so I sped up a little.  The Mustang sped up and stayed right on my ass so I sped up some more.  The Mustang repeated so this time I stood on it.  The Mustang was left far behind but very shortly I came to a stop sign.  As I looked in my rearview, I see the Mustang racing up behind me and now I see he's activated his optional grille mounted lighting system.  Terrific.  So I pull around the corner and over to the shoulder and as the Ford comes up behind me, I notice there is a young cop driving and an older one in the passenger seat and the older guy is shaking his head and waving his hand in a forward push on type of motion.  As they go by me, I can see the young cop looks po'd and the older guy gave me the thumbs up.

You're kidding right? I mean, you think most of what you say is taken very seriously anyway?

It's obvious that you have no tact, otherwise you'd know that certain things aren't meant to be joked about. For instance: pulling out AK47 to scare someone isn't really considered a joke or funny by anyone other than someone who's a little disturbed... :image_294343:

Not getting the joke wasn't the problem.  The problem was, it wasn't even CLOSE to being funny.  In fact, it killed all the funny in the room, it was so bad.

I've never been followed, but I HAVE tried to follow, once.  I seen a nice black 68 at a stoplight, heading the other way, so I tried to turn around, and follow it.  I hoped to be able to catch it at a red light, and pull next to it, and say hi to the owner.  Couldn't get turned around fast enough, though.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Charger Aficionado

Dude.   I did get followed one time for a very long time...   I went through these "Terrorism Awareness" classes that stuck in my head, and I was fresh out of the military...   First and foremost, they tought you to keep alert, and always watch the rear-view, so this became habit... So I notice this guy in a Black Sedan following me for some time...   After noticing him, I kept making new turns in a circle, and he still followed.   This was when I had my first '69, I spun it around and questioned him.   Spun it around in a Very Violent fashion...   (Part of that course was a BSR Anti-Terrorist Driving Course).   Unfortunatley that class had too much classtime, and not enought practical application, so I enjoyed the "appiication"...   Our training was done in gutless Japanese Sedans meant to be mini-limos for dignitaries.   Needless to say, this guy was scared crap-less...

I had a CHP run-in and so did my best friend in my '69...   One was my buddy doing 80 in a 45 Christmas Eve, and CHP I.D.ed him, and told him Merry Christmas...   :)

Second was me Doing some Insane Speed down Hwy 152 coming from the bay toward Fresno Ca...   I think I was going about 120-125 according to my GPS (which has been Verrry accurate, and gives "high speeds" for the day)...   I often drove over 100 after I got out of the military, and I realize it was EXTREMLEY stupid.   I saw him from afar in the opposite lane, but we were devided, I quickly let off gas, and then dropped it into 2nd...   Letting off the gas, has a pretty good effect, but I had to pray to God I didn't destroy my drivetrain when dropping the gear at about 95ish (I'd guess)...   She has highway gears, but boy did she SCREAM Like a stuck pig...  Suddenly I see a HUGE plume of DIRT getting kicked-up as this CHP thrashed his poor 5.0 in the median to come-about.   He drove up behind me, and sat at my driver's side rear, as if drafting...   What seemed to be 10 miniutes passed, and he just SAT there...   I was FROZEN stiff.   He pulled-up a little, gave the thumbs-up, and then took-off...   I was in shock.   Still un-believeable I wasn't in a jail cell that evening...

Enough of the man stories.  Has anyone ever been followed by some hot chicks and what happened?

JR

When a cop's following me I usually pull in the first gas station or public parking lot I see and most of the time they will keep on riding. They are usually just waiting for me to mess up so they can bust me for something.  Pulling over before they have the chance really bugs them. I saw a city cop pull a U turn right behind me as I pulled out on the highway once and I pulled in to Texaco before he could get on me or hit the lights. I parked by a pump and got out quickly and he pulled up.
He said something about seatbelts and I told him I had lapbelts.  He said Oh ok and drove off. Never mentioned why he pulled the quick u trun behind me.

When random people follow me I usually pull in a parking lot and wait in the car with the engine running and in drive. Most of the time they just compliment the car or ask if I wanna race them But I don't take any chances.

The other kind of stalker is the one that stays on the bumper and tries to get you to race them. Doesn't  matter what POS their driving, they are gonna try to get you to race them.
I just ignore them. I'm not getting a ticket over some idiot with a little pecker and something to prove.

Me, my 73 year-old dad, and my 50 year-old brother-in-law were driving the General this summer when I noticed a car behind me following. I drove for about a mile, made a few turns and the car stayed with us. I pulled over and there were three high school girls following us. The girl driving was a fan of the Dukes and loved the car. She asked a couple of questions and then left screaming hysterically. Guess she had never been that close to a General replica.

My Charger looked like the Blade car for a year. The final movie even came out while it was done that way. The funny thing is nobody associated the car with Blade except for one guy. He said "They used a car like that in the vampire movie...uh whats it called?". Otherwise it was always General Lee referances. Funny how the model of car irregardless of color gets that from people.

There was 4 of us and the back of the van was PACKED with music eqiupment (we were headed to San Diego to play a show). We were headed uphill and got flashed as they passed us. Out of all 4 of us, the one who would have wanted to see it the most missed it.  :icon_smile_big:

Two stories! When I was 17, and living in S. Ca, I had a local Sheriff "following" heading out of town. At the last light before an empty 3 mile stretch of 55/60MPH two lane roads. He pulled beside me, rolled down the passenger side window of his SUV and started to talk to me about how he had a Charger like my 72 but he had a 68 (the   :icon_bs: flag popped up on my head), He said it was fast and wanted to see is mine was as fast as his. I told him it only has a 318 with a 2.94 in the rear, but that did not make sense to him, and he still wanted me to floor it when the light turned green. I was stupid and did. He stayed beside me until about 90MPH then he waived to me to slow down to the speed limit. He turned at the next road, and he has not talked to me since.

Number two is for 69dcrtseV8.
I was convoying to and from an exorcise, in a 5-ton truck. Some of our other military member on the site could tell you that 400+ miles in a 5-ton or duce (2 1/2 ton), at 55 MPH is not the most entertaining thing in the world. No radio, no AC, but the 5-ton made up for it with a lot of road noise, and the scenery of Wyoming! On the way back to base we hit a lot of road construction. We where stopped at four sections of construction for 20-40 minutes apiece, and had to drive even slower through a few other construction sections. During one of the stops that we were forced to make. Two young collage students from Alabama got caught in the middle of our convoy, right in front of my truck. The two girls apparently wanted to show their “military appreciation”, so my buddy and I got a very nice flashing :2thumbs:. OK, Wyoming did have some scenery :drool5:! We ended up talking to them for another 20 minutes before the road opened back up. Unfortunately they where going back to Alabama, and not to UT. I would have been happy to show them around  :D

no good ones here.  I had a red mid 90s gm pickup follow me for about 3 miles across town once, but he quit and turned around before I got where I was going.  I had a black early 90s mercedes follow me home too  :icon_smile_angry: some middle-aged guy (with flamed seat covers) asking if I had any parts for sale.  I gave some lame excuse to get rid of him.

I got pulled over doing 110+ MPH in my Bright green 69 about 2 or 3 am. Normally I get a little nervous when the cops pull me over and especially when I know Im screwed. This night was different, I worked a 12 or 14 hour day and was in a foul mood at best. I really didnt give a rats ass what happened, and I was pretty much over it before I even stopped the car.

Anyway.... I pull over. The cop gets out of the car and from the way he was walking and and slam of the door I can tell hes pissed. He gets to my window and looks at me and says "YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FAST YOU WHERE GOING?" I looked at him and said " I doint know sir... but I was going pretty f*&king fast!" He gets the blank look on his face, then a shocked look at what I had just said. He then grins with a smile and a chuckle and says "ok..... license and registration please" He takes my paperwork and goes back to the patrol car for what seems like forever. Finally he comes back to my car. And he says to me "Your record is clean, Im going to let you go." And then "you really need to slow down, your driving a bright green car, next time I will give you ticket" He than laughs again.  I thanked him like 90 times and he asked me some questions about the car. As he walked away he said "Nice car, have a nice night"

I was SOOO lucky. Ive been pulled over a bunch in the charger and only got one ticket. That ticket was for some BS lane change at 4am from a bored noob cop.

Ive recieved 2 no seatbelt tickets in my brothers truck and 1 no left turn in my GF's BMW. In all 3 cases Im sure if I was driving the Charger they wouldnt have hassled me. It pays to drive a kickass car.

I have the cops follow me all the time in my black 68. It's got a good set of pipes and has a nice rumble but is only loud if you floor it. I had one sheriff a couple of weeks ago come flying up to about 3 feet off my bumper and stay there for about 5 miles on a deserted back road. He then backed off and pulled over. About 30 seconds later, he came flying up again like he was going to ram me and did the same thing. My friend was driving his 69 a while back and a cop kept cutting him off and wouldn't let him out of a parking lot. When my buddy got out to see what the cop wanted, he took off so my friend chased him to get his license number to complain to the chief of police. That's weird, a Charger chasing a cop car! My girlfriend asked me why the police hate Chargers so much. My only response was "Because these things were made for one thing baby, and that's breakin' the law!"

A couple of years ago I had a guy following me in my 68. He motioned me to pull over......I drove a few blocks and pulled over in a bank parking lot that was outin the open on a busy road.

He told me how much he loved my car and said he wanted to buy it. he offered a couple of low line second gen barracudas in trade and some cash. I toild him I needed $25K. He said he was interested and wanted to exchange info. I told him in the summer I hang out at the Covington Fred Meyer show on Friday nights, he could find me there if he was serious.....I never saw him again. I wa glad, I didn't really want to sell anyway.

I took the Charger to work one night just to give it some exercise. Coming home from the night shift there were pretty much only two cars on the interstate. Mine and the idiot two feet off my rear bumper. When I got off on an exit to drop a buddy at his house I got a look at my tailgater. It was a MD State Trooper. I'm glad I controlled the urge to stomp the pedal to get away from him. That's probably what he was trying to bait me to do.

I've been followed several times.  One of these instances I even ended up making good friends with a guy from Springfield, MO that was just passing through my hometown on his way to a family reunion.  He saw me driving around, and followed me until I pulled into a convenience store.  Got out, asked to take some pictures, and we talked for 1/2 hour.  About 2 years later I took the car down to Springfield to go to a car show with him.

Whenever I'm headed home though, I don't pull into my driveway/garage if there's someone following me - that's when I do the cruise-around-until-they-get-nervous routine.  That's only happened 2 or 3 times though.

Living in/around a small town has its advantages when it comes to the cops... they know me and the car, so the only time I've been given too much grief is when I first put my year-of-manufacture plates on.  A deputy sherriff didn't know I could legally register the car with those plates, and was looking forward to giving me some grief.  They were a little sheepish when I not only pulled out the registration, but also a copy of the state statute that set up the program a couple of years before.

When my buddy got out to see what the cop wanted, he took off so my friend chased him to get his license number to complain to the chief of police. That's weird, a Charger chasing a cop car!

Now for those of you with good memories, the first time you saw General Lee, he was chasing a police car.

Matt. 14:8 (KJV) "And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, 'give me here John Baptist's head in a Charger.'"
