Sometimes I wish I had a car hauler.

Ugh U-haul wants 700 bucks to rent one of their stupid auto transports from Washington to Ohio... someone shoot me... or give me a better idea.  I really don't want to have to tell them I'm using it in town and haul a trailer all the way to Wa empty and then all the way back... but I've done it before.  Oh well, might as well buy one for that price.  :shruggy:

I'm guessing that the car you want to haul does not run (otherwise I would use a transport company). If you can take your time look at the classifieds (here, moparts, etc.) and see if someone is going your way. May take a while but it does pay off.

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Either a car dolly or a full on 4 wheels up sort of gig.  If I end up uhauling it it will be 4 wheels up but I would use a dolly and just disconnect the drive shaft.  The car does run! A first for any of my projects... has a 383 but I don't know that it drives, I will look in the local ads and see what I can find... if not im gonna be singin some willie nelson "on the road again...."  ::)

I had my Charger hauled in a covered trailer from Michigan to South Florida for $700. The hauler was professional and went above and beyond for me. I found him on UShip; http://www.uship.com/

You could post up and see what kind of bids/transport you get. Unless you're dead set on taking a road trip...

Do you know the exact length, width and height of a 68'?  Its for the quote lol thanks in advance!

Did you buy a car? If so, just tell them it's local and haul the trailer both ways. They don't weigh much and shouldn't hurt your mileage too bad. If you're coming from Washington state then I'd probably just have it shipped as gas, food, and lodging (and trailer rental) will cost you that much.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I think I guessed at 14'x8'. Trailer guys know how big cars are if they've hauled any before.

A Charger is a lot longer than 14'.

This should help - although weight is dependent on engine and options.

I just had a 69 Charger shipped from Los Angeles to Minneapolis (1,820 miles) for $990.  Open carrier trailer, full running condition car.   :yesnod:

I used ATS transport.

I agree, I really need one. So many rusty cars I could pick up to part out...oh and I could finally bring my Coronet home. However, that leaves me with one thing I still need....a truck.

I will be buying a car I'm checking the shipping prices first however... I like to have all my numbers together.  I really don't want to drive out that far but if its cheaper... its also more fun, and I get to see the car in person.  That is before I fall asleep half way home and swerve into a ditch  :2thumbs:

Also, yea I always do that with uhual cause they let you have them for 3 days anyways... I ran a fuel calc and it said it would be around 700 for gas so 750 with the trailer.  I always wondered what would happen if you got a flat with the uhual and you weren't were you were supposed to be?  :shruggy:

When people found out I was moving, I don't know how many times I heard just tow your Charger on a trailer behind your Duster. I'm like "uhhhhh...."

Local towing co have a rolldeck for sale  with "make offer" in the window.
If your near Florence KY, try Bobs towing on Dixie.
May be a good investment for someone

I have seen a few used haulers for sale lately for around $1,500 I'm sure with a project car it will be put to use quite often, I'm thinking about buying one myself.

I can only imagine :eek2: "Hey man I like yer umm... what is that a Ford? My dad used to have one... hey but since were good buddies now can you haul my hunk of crap to northern Ohio?"

chargergirl

We just bought a trailer from craigs list, enclosed, it was just around the corner from us and $6000 for a V-nose. The first enclosed we bought was from Tampa area, had a friend go look at it. Knew it was good since he said if you don't buy it I will. That one was $4000. Both tow GREAT! We also have an open trailer for the mud/rust buckets don't want to put that in the closed trailer. Even at $1100 for the shipping when you consider your time, fuel, and repairs, running into that ditch, it would be worth it.

If you never ever plan to drag your car from one place to another, like a body shop, or the race track, then pay someone to haul it or try to borrow a trailer. If you do think you'd use a trailer once in awhile, even for hauling other things besides a car, then it makes sense to buy one. This is exactly why I bought mine & don't regret owning it. I've dragged parts cars home, project cars, picked up 2500 pounds of coal for my stove, helped friends move their cars, & just this past Friday took my friend & his Cuda to Lebanon Valley Dragway so he could race his car.

Renting a trailer isn't cheap, but the 7000 pound one I bought brand new was $1725.00 complete with ramps, dual axle brakes, & tows great. Just using is a few times in comparison to renting, it paid for itself.
