My car will be in primer Tuesday at the latest. It has come along way since Feb. My dilemma is every time I go to buy paint I can't make up my mind :rotz:. My choices are 75 corvette flame red for a GL or Lime light for a DMCL replica. I have everything to make it a GL but in the back of my mind I want a DMCL. I was just curious on what you guys thought as I'm having a heck of a time deciding. :shruggy:
Takes a MOPAR to catch a mopar!

Charger-Bodie

68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .

Newbie here.  What the heck is a DMCL? Daytona ? clone?
No GL, that much I can say.  Real nice looking car, 4 spd  :drool5: Y2 Yellow?
If DMCL is anything to do with Daytona, DMCL. :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

If those are the only 2 Choices.... I'd vote DMCL. Don't get me wrong I like the General, but if you go to a MOPAR show, you see several General's, and to be honest, I have never seen a DMCL clone at any I've been to.

Be sure to post some pics after you get it painted!

bull

Why not buy another one and do both?

G-man

I dont see whats good about a sublime green Charger in DMCL. The General Lee definately is nicer as far as a paint scheme goes. Chargers just look good in orange. However, considering in the back of your mind you have DMCL... you will eventualy kick yourself doing the GL and say "I Knew i shoulda done DMCL!, I KNEW IT!" yeah well too late then.

So do DMCL.

DMCL here also,,,   A Gen lee  will blend in with the rest of them.

I will always appreciated the GL more even if there are more of them. Orange just pops out better and it looks NASCAR'ish

Do you like attention? If so forget the DMCL because 95% of the population will have no idea what you're going for. On the other hand, if you go with DOH/GL 95% of the population will know exactly what you're going for.

Or he could spray it flat black and throw on a hood ornament and get only the Mopar guys attention because no one else would know what it was... That would be a great way to weed out the tools.  :Twocents:

True but I hope the 69 in general will get plenty of attention :2thumbs:. Not to many mopars in my neck of the woods, alot of Chevy guys. There is a couple of  guys in the next town from me who has some nice mopars. They own there own body shops and one brother drag races. dmcl is a good choice. if people dont know what it is, you can tell them. are you from east iowa or west?

Ghoste

Go with the DMCL look, why does anyone else have to know what it is?  If you like the look that is first and foremost.  If someone knows and they like it too, all the better.  If they don't know and ask, it's a great opportunity to turn them on to a cool car chase movie they may not have looked into otherwise.

Orange_Crush

Just a thought..and its your car, so you should do what makes you (and ONLY you) happy...

But why clone a movie car?

The General Lee is COMPLETELY played and, as bull said, no one's gonna know what you are going for with the DMCL look.

Why not do something that is YOU, not some movie car.  Be your own man.  I have seen color schemes on Chargers that positively made me want to bleach my eyes...but I respected them because the owner put some of his/herself into them.  OTOH, when I see a GL or DMCL clone (and I have seen one or two of them) I just keep walking.  They really do nothing for me.

Just my $.02.  Enjoy this hobby your way, and if it makes you happy to make a movie clone, go for it and enjoy.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Khyron

LMAO! why did I just find this thread.... My advice.

Were Bull is correct that not allot of people "get" my car... it still gets a lot of attention. I have movie posters and other odds and ends that drop hints of what it is. If they don't know the movie... it just makes me smile anyways.

second.... WOW, the love of this paint makes me smile.

I almost did a GL, thought about it for about... 15 seconds. I Love them, They look good, but this car ... believe it or not, gets more attention then the GL's in my area. because it's different.

also, if you do go the DMCL... DON'T PAINT THE STRIPES!!!!! PM me, I will send you the measurements and bring the info to a vinyl shop...

*EDIT* ohh and don't ever say Limelight again ;) your body shop will paint your car the wrong color... it's Citron Yella, as stated before in this thread... just wanted to repeat it ;)

Definitely DMCL. And yeah, I caught that too, paint it GY3 (a '71 color), not FJ5 (limelight).

wow i was reading this thread, and this was exactly what i was thinking. my vote would have been based on the amount of attention you wanted with the car. As you replied later, all 69's get a lot of attention, general lee's on the other hand, are in a class of their own(or used to be before everyone and their grandma cloned one). When i rode mine around a few years back, it was absolutely crazy how people react al the time and you can't go ANYWHERE without being bugged/noticed. i hated that. don't get me wrong, i like thumbs up as much as the next guy, but general lee's are so excessive with the attention they bring it seriously gets old. My wife got to the point where she wouldn't ride in it, because we couldn't just " go somewhere". all that said, i think you're making the right choice. Nothing wrong with cloning a movie car.

for the love of all that is holy, please trust me when I say don't paint the stripe  My plan, is if I ever get sick of the car's paint, I peel the sticker off, white stripe on the butt and white vinyl top... new car!

Thanks for the advice on the color. Glad I haven't got it yet. Why I want to make it like a movie car is simple, after watching DMCL or Dukes I fell in love with the 69's. It reminds me of my childhood in a way you know :yesnod:. Its nothing more then a yellow 69 with a black stripe and some sweet wheels (slots are the BEST!) :2thumbs:. The black with yellow stripe would be sweet but around here they would think I'm a Hawkeye fan :smilielol:! Kyron I will send you a PM . On another note check out my new project. This will be my first A body project. This thing came with a lot of spare parts including a complete 383-2 build date 8-16-69! Guess were that will go :icon_smile_big:.
