Engine breather

I have a breather fitted on one of the rocker covers  which twists in like an oil filler cap above which I have a tube coming off the air filter where I presume a breather pipe once fitted.

What do you guys do.......should it go into the air filter thus preventing fumes or is it better that it breathes into the engine bay?

Also do they make a twist in style breather pipe take-off that I could replace the current breather with allowing me to connect to the air filter?

Many Thanks

I would think the tube should go to the air cleaner.  This allows fresh filtered air to be pulled through the engine and then after picking up engine fumes allow the resultant mix to be directed to the intake manifold via the PCV valve.  Some of the twist on breather caps have a filter built in so don't need a hose.  I think these are the aftermarket ones.
