Shaker or not?

In my original planning on the upcoming Hemi challenger project I wanted it to have the shakerscoop setup, car has now the R/T bulgehood.
A shaker E-body was always my favorite (except my charger ofcourse) and I really looked forward to a dream coming thru untill I started
checking up what this "nice looking setup" would cost me. :eek2:

Hood   1100$
Shaker (all in) 2500-2800$
Sipping+taxes 1000$ +

I'm seriously considering to let go of my favoritesetup, the shaker, because of the amount of money but on the other hand I'm afraid that
If I build the car without it I will always regret it and don't like it as much. :brickwall:

Please tell me that you don't like the shakerhoods at all and that it's totally stupid to sacrifice other things in life for a stupid hood. :yesnod:

I like the bulge hodd; I don't hate the shaker (sorry) but I dont hate the bulge either.  All the same, if the shaker is your dream you need to keep following it.

Shakers are neat but, as you've found, are prohibitively expensive. I personally wouldn't put one on unless it was stock (or I wanted a really accurate clone). I should state that I like the bulge hoods any way. Some people don't. It's your car though. If you've always dreamed of having a shaker then you'll be disappointed without one. You could always add it later though. I'd buy the hood at least so you can paint it with the rest of the car so it matches.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I like the shaker as well & wanted to get one for my Barracuda, but not a very practical choice because of cost, & the chance of it either being stolen or getting caught in the rain. (yeah, it has drains, but so what?) I left the standard hood on the car & was content because I couldn't justify the price of a shaker no matter what. I use the same reasoning for an air grabber hood on my Satellite, the cost of all the parts including the air box is not worth it to me. I have the standard, non-functional, hood with the two inlets & block out plates.

In my opinion, the shaker looks better on the Cuda than on the Challenger, if I had a Challenger, the R/T hood would be better for me

shakers are awesome , if you can afford it go for the shaker  :Twocents:
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

I find Troys suggestion on going for the hood at first for the paint and wait and see for the rest good. In worst case I could always sell it
with some loss. Apart from the cost it's also the availibility of the carbs with a shaker makes one going for a singlecarb setup which I don't know
if a Hemiengine prefers for best performance although I'm not aiming to build a racecar but a cruiser. :scratchchin:

an 1100 cfm single carb on a hemi will run like a raped ape!
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

You're right - Shaker hoods are stupid (expensive)! That said, it might well be one of the greatest looking hoods Mopar ever made.

Think long and hard - or just go with your gut feeling. Sadly, that's the price of another decent project car wrapped up in one body panel on one car. I've often thought about buying one of the Ramcharger Air Grabber hoods for my 1971 Dodge Charger. Fortunately, I'm a reporter in a small city and that really helps me manage my parts purchases!

Either way, I'm sure the Challenger will be a sweet ride - what's under the hood will be more important - and I'm sure you'll make the right decision...

A rough calculation says that a shaker will delay the project with one year, what's a year in a lifetime.

No way man, get something on there and drive! Save for the shaker while you're burning gas.  :coolgleamA:

quit yur bitchin and go rob a bank...
after reading this you'll want to take out a loan... ok, another loan...

"One customer found when he hit an animal with his GT500KR how pricey it's snout is: hood $18,400; hood pins $632; front spoiler $3392. Shelby's since offered an interesting explanation — and lowered those prices. Here's what happened.

According to Shelby, their carbon-fiber hood is the only CF hood in regular production (we're guessing the ZR-1's polycarbonate panel disqualifies it from consideration?) and that all the required federal testing and so on adds to the cost. Also, evidently, keeping the prices high — and demanding all damaged KR parts be returned before new parts are shipped — prevents just anyone from slapping a KR hood or other parts on their base Mustang.

Whatever their rationale, the fan forums went understandably nuts. In response, the price of the hood will be reduced to $9,700 and Shelby is reconsidering the prices of other carbon-fiber components. We love the KR, but that still seems like a lot of money for Ford parts."

These two came with shakers - I like both hoods.

1) You can't hate a shaker with the hood closed. :2thumbs:

2) You can't love a shaker with the hood open - covers most of the mill and is a giant PITA to work on. When this happens - go back to 1   ;D
