How loose can timing chain be
on my 440 engine it is about 3/8"-7/16"

Crane Roller Timing Chain Sets Part#: 68975-1 which is with standard chain i assume
and this engine mains has line honed so should/can i use -.005" Undersize chain if that 3/8"-7/16" is too much?

7/16" is too much play.  My car had a 1/2" and it ran like a pig.  After a new timimg chain set I think it picked up 50 hp!  Do what ever you have to to get the play under 1/8.  I have seen an after market chain tensioner that might work for you.

Since you already have a degree wheel hooked up, see how many degrees of crank movement that 7/16" of chain slop amounts to.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Does the chain appear to be worn or was the block align honed?

it seem to be like "new chain" as everything else in this motor, and block might be align honed i dont know for sure, i bought the car 3mounths ago, cam timing is 18 deg too early :o
can i use use -.005" Undersize chain or are the gears different with those setups?

Without knowing all the machinework done to this engine it's hard to say whether or not the undersize timing set would work or not. It's obvious that the current setup has too much slack. It could be an issue with a defective chain that stretched or it might need an undersized set-up.  :shruggy:

You might have to buy one of each and simply try them out to see what you're happy with.  :yesnod:

or should i go with Milodon gear drive :yesnod:

this my engine has been done 01/05/2006 in Collier Machine inc in FL and they have assemblet the whole engine including adjusting the cam timing which was that 18deg too early :icon_smile_big:
maybe i will pull down the whole engine and look what othes shit it contains :brickwall:
no wonder that there was no power (= only 337.6 hp)on it :flame:

I wouldn't automatically assume that the chain looseness is caused by the chain size and order an undersizsed one that might not fit, it might be simply worn for whatever reason.

2-2,5 degrees

ill try that undersized chain first
i canĀ“t belive that it is worned because everything looks like new on this engine
