Okay guy I'm gonna be in the market for a 68-70 Charger more than likely. I'm just wondering what $10k to $15k would be me for a Charger? I'm looking for a nice driver and prefer a big block. I would like any input regarding this issue. Also, when I go to look for a Charger is there anything in particuliar that I need to look for as far as rust, electrical issues go? I currently have a 71 Challenger but, in the process of trying to sell it and buy a Charger since the guy ripped me on the Challenger when I bought it.

you could probably still get a decent driver, 20 footer in good mechanical condition.

Im not sure about 68-70, but im sure you could find a good 383 or possibly a 440 third gen for that price.   If you're talking about a daily driver, I might go for a 340.

My dad already had a 3rd Gen Rallye Charger. Anyways, I'll also keep my eyes for maybe a 3rd Gen 71-72 Road Runner.

that of course is the most popular year range, I'd wager the 69 would be where you'd get the least bang for your buck (yes I know this is biased   :D) followed by 68 then 70.
After that it would depend what options you're after, the more rare stuff/combo's you want the less you're gonna get for your 10k - 15k, FYI, I paid 12750 for a 69 R/T 440 4spd w/ A33 track pack that needs a resto (in progress) she's an all metal Arizona car and was exactly what I was looking for. Did I pay too much? get a steal? depends on who ya talk to - You could probably get a decent "ready to go" driver for the same range but I doubt you'd get many "rare" options.

Bottom line........If all you want is to get a 68, 69, 70 Charger and terrorize your local furd and chebbie boys grab whatever makes you happy and gets you the most car in your price range (they're all awesome cars) and go to it!!

Good luck, just my $.02

Check out the used car publications that specialize in older cars.  You wouldn't believe what some cars are selling for, but once you get over that you'll get a better idea of what you're going to have to spend, and/or settle for...

Darkness

Thanks guys. Yeah, I already know what some are selling for. I've seen some deals out there but, they are few and far between it seems.

there is no doubt in my mind you can get a solid 68-70 dodge charger with a big block for $15k. maybe not a real R/T.. but a 383 car? sure. things to look for. make sure it's not a quicky fresh paint job. thise hide bondo and rust issues. myself, i'd rather have a 5 year old paint job than one done 2 months ago. flaws have time to show up by then. what to look for. 1. lower quarters, take a magnet   2. trunk floor. if it's replaced correctly, no problem, what you don't wnat it to lift the mat and see a piece of tin tacked in or a big plate of steel.. 3. check floors they may look great underneath, but make sure they aren't soft from inside.
4. the frame. main 2 places are in the very back by the lower rear valance, and secondly on the sides of the front frame right under about where the door/fender meet. 5. check the rear window area, make sure it looks clean. thatshould just about do it, if you get surprised and a fender or door turns out to have too much bondo, that is ok, because at least it can be bolted off/on. but lieki said i see no problem finding a $15k big block car in solid shape. i could find on tomorrow if i needed to i'm sure.. 68 or 70 is best bet. 69 a little harder. just the way it is. good luck hope this helps a little

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be keeping my eye out for a decent one. Hopefully, I'll come across something possibly.

Probably an obvious statement but most deals won't be found on the net.  Start scouring those backyards and local trader papers.  Ask Charger Hound how he does it and I bet it's mainly word of mouth.  Tell everyone you know that you are looking for one.  Get the word out locally and a deal will likely turn up right around the corner from you.

69_500

Word of mouth is by far the best way to track down a deal. The net, is probably the worst place to try to get a deal. However the net does provide a wider audience to get your word out that your looking. So it can lead to some deals.

I would stick to publications, and word of mouth though if your wanting to score a deal. If you just want to see the most available cars that are up for sale, then incorporate the net.

Thanks everyone. I know there is a couple of classic cars near me. One is 67 Ford Mustang Coupe that sits under a car cover most of the time and I've only seen it one but, I've seen a 68-69 Cornet Coupe in primer. Haven't seen it since. Mostly Ford & Chevy country here. Andy74 what type of car does Ken have?
