Liver Biopsy anyone?

JoeyGowdy

As some of you know as of late I have been seeing doctors about my high sugar, low energy, bipolar mood swings and possible hemochromatosis.  They will be draining 1 pint of blood from me every month until the iron levels are lowered to normal and ordered a liver biopsy to check for possible liver damage from the high iron deposits in my blood... which went well I suppose - won't know the results for a few days... so here's a video of him explaining what he did:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qHVSdfSlZo

It wasn't too bad - they had already numbed the skin with a smaller needle however it felt like a bad muscle cramp when the guide needle pierced the outer layer of the liver. The actual biopsy grapple needle he is describing in the video could not be felt when he was taking the samples.

Seriously high iron is probably genetic somehow.

I can't imagine eating enough iron to mess you up to that degree.  Not unless your system isn't handling/eliminating it normally in the first place.

The procedure or this thread?

Dammit, soda came out of my nose.  Thanks Bull!~

Good luck, Gowdy.    I can't imagine how glad your doctor must be when he sees you, and your camcorder, coming.  Or more likely, going...

You must have missed the vid of him being conceived... it's about 3 down from that one.

And the thread title instantly makes me think of Dr. Lechter, and the census taker.

Had one when I was 18 in 1984. Wasn't bad at all.  I'm still alive.

I've had 2 biopsies this summer, 1 on my kidney and an incisional biopsy on my leg, both went easy. They pump you so full of drugs before they even start prepping that you don't even know they started. There's nothing at all to be worried about. Afterwards is when it sucks. Who knew laying on your back for 4 hours without moving could be such a damn chore?

I'll wait for the video thanks.

Had a friend go through that...he was out when they put it in. The nurse removed it like ripping a bandaide off a cut. He said his "bud" would scream every time she entered the room..."NOOOOO make her leave, make her leave and do it's version of the fetal position". Never had it done and never want to.

I was out when they put it in also, thank god. When the nurse came in to take it out she said "It will only feel like a pinch." And I believed her.....  :brickwall: :slap:  All I could do was gasp and run to the bathroom, probably sobbing - can't remember, to make sure the poor feller still worked.

Thanks everyone :shruggy: I will not know the results until Oct. 6th when I go back and have 2 more pints of blood drained (which may occur more often depending on the results) to help filter out the high iron of of my body.  I'm not on any meds yet though I figure they will put me on some soon :brickwall: $20k billed to me this month thus far.

Gosh thanks for the update.  Wow, with all those medical procedures, the huge expense and certainly the attendant stress, maybe you should take a long break from posting on internet message boads.  You gotta think of your health, dude!!
