So...     I just have to ask - does anyone else here have problems finding parts for the Poly engines ?   I have a 318 Poly in my 1966 Satellite and the more and more I look at it; the more and more I'm thinking of keeping it...     just for the "being different" thing....       I have found some interesting stuff like a stroker kit, gasket sets, cams...

So am I crazy for wanting to run this?  I do have a dual quad intake off of a 1957 Fury...      No idea why I am posting this - just thought it was one of those rarely covered engines...    Official Poly thread ?

we have a member on our Charger forum that installed Sequential Fuel Injection....headers, and the whole nine yards...I can try and get you his contact info if ya want...

is that on the 66-67 Forum ?   I think I am a member there already - just never post -   I'll go search over there - does he have a thread ?

Since you asked... I don't think it'd be crazy to run it all and the "different" aspect would be appealing at a lot of shows I bet.  Challenging perhaps but not crazy.

I had a 318 poly, wavy valve covers right???, that was in a 50's something Mopar. I always thought I'd do something with it...ended up throwing it in the engine bay of a '73 Olds Delta 88 I used as a demo derby car and was hauling to the scrapyard. I kept the 455, so I used the poly as extra weight because scrap was high.  :shruggy:

didnt mopar muscle to a bit on a poly engine about 3-4 years ago where they stroked it a 1" over and gave it some ballz?

Yes they did...    Stroked it, custom pistons, head porting, cam, intake, headers etc....     but that build cost greatly exceeds the cost of a LA smallblock and is close or equal to a BB...

The 318 has the saw tooth looking valve covers

After looking at that EFI poly build i am about 80% convinced on doing something cool with this build...      anyone can stick a 383 in the car...    I want something different...     I have a bunch of stock 5.9L Magnum stuff and a Megasquirt II sitting in the garage...    I also have a dual quad intake...     Maybe I should go with dual throttle body EFI

Opinions ?

I thinkk you need to take lots of pics and document the entire process so you can sell the story to some magazine after.  If MM has already done there own maybe ME or MCG?

Rolling_Thunder

Well - I would not sell it to MCG

MM did their own build yes...   but theirs wasnt fuel injected   haha

Well first thing is first - I'm getting my Charger done...     I've been reading Mike's thread about driving across the country - I'm a little peeved at myself for not having my Charger done to go cruising...    oh well - maybe this will be the motivation I need to finish this pig up.

I had thought about doing something like this with a Chrysler that had 4 doors and was dark green. Basically make a nice cruiser out of it. When I went back to get the car, it was, of course, gone. Oh well. It was a mid 60's car b/c it had the certicard holder up on the radiator support.... Would have been interesting to have that car.

Rolling_Thunder

That is the plan for this thing...     EFI just for cruisability - convertible mopar with an EFI small block and, down the road a 518 with 3.23 gears...      Cheap and easy.

I found 2 barrel throttle bodies that I can machine adapters to fit my dual quad intake - they flow 440cfm - I figure 880cfm would be plenty for a 318....

My only other option would be a 5.2 or 5.9 engine out of a Dakota or early 90s Ram...     but I think the Poly route would be more fun

Well I am currently bidding on an aluminum weiand 4bbl intake on E-gay at the moment...    So I think I might just be using a single 4bbl intake and a 4bbl throttle body - it will make things a lot easier than the dual quad intake...

I had quite a few problems sourcing parts for my 2-ton truck's 318 Poly rebuild/upgrade.  I did the dual-four conversion, and it was a headache - mostly because I was still trying to work with a mechanical throttle linkage rather than a cable.  There were other issues which were self-inflicted, like installing a LA stroker crankshaft which totally messed up the flywheel mounting, starter ring gear and pilot shaft dimensions.  It seemed there was always something else that I forgot to address while going through that process, and it seemed like it would never end.  I'm still glad I went through it though, as there's only one original engine even for 2-ton trucks... and that was it.  Oh, and I painted my valve covers in black crinkle finish, since this is the engine that wants to be a Hemi when it grows up.

You can definitely make more HP much cheaper by rebuilding a similar CID smallblock, but there is the "cool factor" of having the only one on your block (a near iron-clad guarantee) like it.  Plus, if you're ever really hard-up for entertainment, all you have to do is saunter into your local AutoZone and ask the high-school worker behind the counter for any part that comes to mind from a '60s Polysphere 318.  The strange looks you get are priceless!

Good luck on the project, R_T - sounds like a lot of fun.

Well my dual quad intake just sold on E-bay...    I was very surprised...    this was my first E-bay auction and the first bid was placed about 10 minutes before the auction ended...    ended up going for $410.00    :icon_smile_big:
