Stripe Placement on a 69 Charger

I have never put a stripe on a car before, so I hired a guy from a local shop to put it on for me.  He was doing it as a side job, so he was only charging me $70 to do it.  I had printed out quite a bit of info from this site and others on putting on the stripe, but the installer did not seem to be interested in reading it, and stated that he had put lots of stripes on cars.

So when I check in about an hour later, he has both quarter portions of the stripe on, and I take a ruler to each side to check alignment.  I find that the two quarters are out alignment with each other by 5/8 of an inch.  The installer tells me he can just cant the trunk portion of the stripe, and that no one will notice.  I tell him that does not work for me, and he then tries to pull off the just applied right quarter portion of the stripe, with the intention of moving it.  Needless to say, it stretches out of shape and is ruined.

I fired the installer.

Now  I have a complete replacement for the stripe, and am wondering if I can still use the installed left quarter portion of the stripe, or if I should just start over completely. (I will be doing this one myself)

To me, the installed left quarter stripe looks canted to the rear on the top portion of the vertical surface.  (See attached photo) Most of the stripe instructions that I have read indicate that the stripe should be centered on the reflector housing opening towards the bottom, but give no detail on placement towards the top.

Can a few of you please take a measurement on your installed stripes and tell me what the measurement is from the outside edge of the quarter panel extension to the rear of the rearmost pin stripe?  It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,
Mike

Somewhere...in this forum....there is the measurements for what the stripes should be.....If memory serves.....they are pretty detailed too!!!   I'm sure someone will chime in on this one!!!  A lot of people say...."I've been applying graphics for years"  that may be true, and they may be air bubble free....but on a restored piece.....they fail to realize that placement is extremely crucial......especially if you are going for the points at the Mopar Nats!!!

Have done several searches, but not found any post indicating actual measurements.

I'll keep looking too...it seems I saw somewhere on here that had the actual dimensions....i'll try some other websites as well....let me know if you find it before I do.....Ace

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Troy,

I already printed out this great tutorial on how to put the stripe on, but was looking for some measurement guidence on eactly where the stripe sits on the quarter.

I know that I have seen it in print in a car parts catalog, or on line years ago.  But have had no luck tracking it down.

I had thought that it was in a Year One Catalog, but their e-mail Tech Line says No.

Tried calling Performance Car Graphics, but they could not be any less helpful, were very curt, and pretty much hung up on me when I said that I had not bought the stripe from them.

Can anyone with an original stripe out there take a measurement and let me know how far from the rear of the quarter their stripe sits?

Yeah, I didn't see exact measurements - although the "bend" at the top should allow you to line up the body line then center the marker hole. There are other threads that go into more detail but they are specific to 68 stripes.
