Does anyone know in what year California mandated that dual snorkle air cleaners were required for our 440 engines?   I've been told both 1967 and 1969, so I'm not sure which year is correct.  Also, would it make a difference whether the 440 was equpped with air conditioning?

i believe it was 1969 in CA - then followed by 1970 for all other states...   this is just an educated guess from what i've seen...   do not take it as gosple
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

I believe that in 1967 the dual snorkel was the only air cleaner available for the 440 high performance and the California mandated one appeared in 1969.  So both answers would be somewhat correct.

It wasn't the number of snorkels that were mandated, it was the heated air cleaner which arrived in '70. Only one snorkel heated by the exhaust manifold heat stove.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

So, if I had a California '68 R/T 440 AC car, would it have an unsilenced air cleaner or a dual snorkle one when it left the factory?
