Big Block Intake Insulation???

Did all big blocks come with the insulation under the intake? Alos Bill Rolik has a kit that includes a retainer plate that I haev never seen.

yeah  my  E series 440 imperial motor had  insulation & that plate also

I did more digging and found this at Performance Car Graphics. http://www.performancecargraphics.com/Manifold_Insulation.htm
I noticed that PCG says the plate is in the front and Bill Rolik Says its in the rear. Was the plate on your imperial front or rear mounted? Thanks

it was mounted in the front , motor had never been apart prevoiusly buy the looks of it  ,    so put it back on

First off, it's not insulation it's a silencer intended to muffle the clatter inside the valley that resonates off of the tin bathtub gasket.

Second, the plate is always in the front as shown in the factory drawing below.

HP 440's shouldn't have it - It's a luxo-barge noise reduction thing. Can't comment on the the 440 TNT motor.
