This is an old story but these pictures bring it to mind.  When drive home from work with my bud in his 65(?) Carman Gia, it dies in the middle of the Idaho desert.  Turns out that it broke the rotor in the distributor.  He made one out of a carved up eraser and a paper clip!!  Got us the 30 miles back to town.  Sorry, no pictures available from 1969.
