I was thinking...if you had a choice of having soul or having no soul what would you choose? would you like to be eternal or just live this life to the fullest and then just die when its time

Is it the mary-joo-wana making your thoughts so profound? Your question may be flawed among this crowd because many members will no doubt say we have no soul to worry about. But if we do, and it survives eternally, then we all would probably want to learn all we can about what makes it tick so as to avoid it possibly being abused in the afterlife. Many religions teach that the soul will continue on in a state of nirvana no matter what we believe and accept so the folks who believe that feel they are safe no matter what. Yet, IMO that would be the worst situation to be in because they feel obligated to do good and walk the line yet they miss out on all the hedonism available here on Earth. I believe that we have a soul and an opportunity to save our souls from an eternity of funlessness and that service in that realm makes you grow as a person while here and grow closer to your creator here and after death. Not that I have managed to practice that as much as I should, or would like, but I do try.

I also believe this thread will be locked B4 too long. ;)

It'll be locked no doubt, but I'll add my .03 ¢

I am a Christian and believe that we all have a soul, so the idea of choosing to not have a soul doesn't even compute for me. The idea of choosing to just disappear after death is probably pretty appealing to many who do not believe they are living their lives in a manner that would allow them to end up in an eternal afterlife in heaven. I mean, if you don't end up in heaven, the firey alternative would likely be 1000 times worse than just simply vanishing, right? Just the fact that you are asking this question tells me that you realize that you DO have a soul. I also get the feeling that you might be concerned about what happens after death. These are normal human questions..and wether or not they will admit it, MOST people think about this from time to time...yes, even athiests (but they won't admit it out loud to anyone) That's OK, everyone has the right to choose...God planned it that way. I mean, if He forced you to obey and love Him, then that obedience and love wouldn't be genuine, it would simply be a response to a command. That is why we all have free will, and that is why evil exists (because many choose to do bad insteaad of good), and that is why you are asking this question..or even CAN ask this question, because God wants YOU to decide what you do here on earth and wether or not you choose Him of your own free will. Look, you know where I stand, I choose salvation through Jesus Christ and I know where my soul will end up the instant I take my last breath..what do you choose? I'm going to get flamed for this, but so be it...you asked a good question and I'm answering it the best I know how. IMO you might want to see what your missing out on if you aren't already reading the Bible and asking God for some guidance. Afterall, what do you have to lose?...except for your soul that is...

I heard about this guy locally who died, and came back to life and had an "outta body experience".  I was very sceptical, but later met his doctor who happened to operate on my Grandmother.  I asked the doctor at Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto, Ca.  If what the man Jim was saying about his heart shrinking (from being enlarged), was B.S.   He assured me that man died for 8mins and came back to life, with vast improvement to his heart...  I was freaked out by it...  I did a quick search for the guys name, and found this story:  http://www.whatsaiththescripture.com/Jehovah/Not.Afraid.to.Die.html

Oh yes, Silver;  Too much "Wakky Bakky"...

I am taking a night course at the University of Toronto on how to be a ghost in the afterlife.  Instead of rotting in the ground when I die I would like to float around the world scaring the shit of people that deserve it.  The course is 12 weeks long and $1400.00 CDN.  I told my company that it was a CRM course so they are paying for it.

I too am a christian and I believe that we don't have choice on whether or not we have a soul. We all have a soul.

My comment to those that which to believe that they choose if they have a soul or not. I say this, you had better be right. Because 80 years on earth doing what you want may seem like a long time, but its a flash in the pan to eternity.

No, no. Send me $1,000 and I'll teach you online how to become a ghost. You'll save time and gas money and at the end of the course you'll get a certificate.

So the question is to live forever as an empty uncaring shell, or have a normal life span and be greet by St. Peter or the guy with the red suit and pitchfork?
Well to be completly honest, the way that people treat each other, and not only locally but globally, gets to be rather depressing. One would think that to consider ourselves evolved creatures we would be past all the infighting and bickering and have most of the issues solved and move one. But it seems like we would rather fight and catcall orlook for the free ride than enjoy life. You want to spend eternity listening to the news, neighbors, country, globe in this constant state? ;D But if you're an empty soulless vessel, I suppose it wouldn't bother you as you shuffle aimlessly through it. :icon_smile_big:

To answer the question, I would choose to have a soul because I think an eternity in heaven is worth more than 70-100 years (at most) of the best this world has to offer.
