First, let me apologize for not getting any pics. I am in Reno right now for work. Saturday morning I went to get a haircut, and as I was getting out of the car, I seen a orange '70 Challenger pull up in front of Starbucks. So, I walked down there to take a look, and as I got closer, I saw a shaker scoop with 426 HEMI on it. Holy s@#t. When the guy came out, I started a conversation with him. Super nice guy by the way. It turns out this Challenger is 1 of 5 documented left in the world. Go Mango orange, hemi, white interior, 4 speed, immaculate. I was blown away. He also has some other Hemi cars also. I am hoping to get in touch with him again and maybe go check out some of his rides before I leave. Also, I am gonna try to make th Mopar Magic show in Sacramento next weekend. Just thought Id share what I seen. Thanx

1 of 5? That doesn't sound right, but what do I know.

Left in the world is I think his point, maybe?
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

bull

Right. "1 of 5 documented left in the world." So who's doing the documentation and what does that mean to me? I can file documents on my Charger with Galen and if no one else documents a 383/2bbl/4spd 68 with him then I'd have the sole surviving documented 383/2bbl/4spd 68 Charger in the world.

Troy

Guessing it's the combination: Hemi, Shaker, 4-speed, orange with white interior (and probably some other stuff). Sounds like a Galen number (ie "known" cars).

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

How many HEMI Challengers were there in 1970 to begin with? I'm going to guess somewhere in the 350+ range. Nice car, but most of everything can be dwindled down to a 1 of 5-10 if you go far enough down the option list.

68ChargerJMP

Its on the front of one of the Mopar mags out right now I beleive, could be an older one, not sure. He seemed to the real deal on collecting Mopars. I dont think he was grabbing numbers out of the air. His name is Buzz G. Maybe someone has heard of him on here.

Yep, 356 total - 165 with a 4-speed (160 if you drop the 5 convertibles). If it's also an SE that narrows it down to 23.

So, was it a convertable? That number would sound wright then.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Hardtop. Its no big deal to me, Im just relaying what I was told. If I can talk him into showing me his rides before I leave, Ill get some facts.

Troy

Oh, it's still a cool car! Definitely not something you'd expect to see just out and about. I salute the owner for not hiding it away in a glass case somewhere.

Last year I saw a bright green car at a local cruise-in and made a beeline right to it. Turned out to be an unrestored Limelight Hemicuda with a bench seat (1 of 3? and the only one in a high impact color). It also had a rear defrost.

Wango Mango

Jim, didn't mean to mislead you, but Oh Mango is really a 55K, matching 383 R/T.  I told the guy on the Harley talking to us at starbucks, that "there's only 5 N96 Shaker, 4 spd Challys left" (according to what I was told by a reliable source).  I could see his arrogance in his conversation, so I left it at that.  I get so tired of people turning their nose up or criticising Oh Mango when I tell them its a 383 car, that when I'm asked if its a "real hemi car", I just reply, "yeah, its a real R/T" or try to change the subject.  Actually gave a guy over 1/2 hr of undivided attention as he told me his childhood, adolescent & adult history w/ mustangs & how great his Boss was.  After he got tired of talking (& I was worn out w/ listening), he wanted to see Oh Mango & loved it.  Soon as I mentioned it was a 383 car, he turned & walked away.  So you see how frustrating it can be. Anyway, sorry if I misled you & certainly didn't mean to.   I cruised up to Lake Tahoe after we talked at starbucks & should've invited you.  If I'm not moving & get the return fuel line installed by next weekend, I may go the the Sacramento show.  If so, you're welcome to ride along. Would like to run Oh Mango down the strip.   Give me a call if you don't have my card, # is 232-7080.

Well, from one of the registrys we belong to with our 70 chally vert, we found out some numbers based on body color and interior color.  Our chally is a white paint and red interior.  In 1970, they made 99 white chally converts.  In hard tops and convertibles, they made a total of 137.  Now, as far as engine combos, I don't know how many 318 convertibles were made in 1970 with an auto trans and console.  If we had the numbers, we could probably break down our car to being a " 1 of" since there were so few cars made with a white paint job and red interior. :shruggy:

IIRC they only made one or two '71 Hemi Cuda convertibles. Now that's a low production number.

Shaker Hoods are really rare on the '70 Challenger because of major Vendor issues. The number was something around 180 for ALL '70 Challengers - all engine types.
A buddy and I had 2 of them - both Limelight SE 440-6packs. Mine (with the white roof) was a stick, his an original paint auto. My buddy died a few years ago and I helped his mom sell the car. I sold mine to another buddy 2 years ago. There were less than 10 440-6 Shaker Challengers - I imagine less than that with a Hemi.

Cool! I happen to have a Sublime 70 Challenger too (although it's just a little 340). I knew Shakers were rare (on just about any manufacturer's car as well) and it seems weird when about half the cars at shows have one. No wonder it's so hard to determine what's "correct".

Sublime - I'm busted! I had a Limelight 'Cuda and I lazily call all FJ5 cars - Plymouth and Dodge -  Limelight. I would ban me if I were you!   :icon_smile_cool:

I noticed -  but didn't want to point out and almost just said "lime green". I call them all Sublime though. I had a yellow Barracuda and I never could remember if I was supposed to call it "Top Banana" or "Lemon Twist" so I just said Y1. Of course, I have a lot less experience and knowledge than you so people expect me to mess it up... ;)

Top Banana - Dodge, Lemon-Twist Plymouth........BUT....The original window sticker on my 70 FY1 Charger says.....Lemon Twist!  Go figure  :scratchchin:
