Hi all,
I have a question regarding the correct carb for a 69R/T 440 magnum. I know the Carter was used but was wondering about the size used. I have a 3783s carb that was on the car when I bought it, but after some reserch, it shows this carg was used on a 1965 409 chevy motor. It is a 770 competion. I just paid 185.00 to have it overhauled and it looks great but was thinking it might be too much for my stock engine. Also, are these carbs any better than say a new elderbrock 650?

Thanks

FWIW:
i have the 770 CFM street avenger on a Weiland stealth and it works great... not exactly your app. but maybe Firefighter or one of the other Pros can give their advice..

I think the original was around 625 cfm (650 max).  In any case the original one for your 69 440 would be an AVS (4617 or 4618 or possibly even 4640) which in the current Eddy lineup would be one of their Thunder series carbs.  The new Edelbrock would potentially be better than an Carter because everything is new and tight blah blah blah but also because the original AVS used a three step rod which is hard to find.  The Thunder series use the two step rod like the AFB and so you have more choice there.
BUT... the 770 is not too much for your 440 at all.

Thanks for your replies, I knew I could get the info I needed from this site. I was talking to a guy with a 67GTX 440 and he used a Holly 750 double pumper and really likes it.
