What transmission do I have?

Im new to mopar and just pulled the engine and transmission out of my 68 charger. How can i identify what auto transmission I have? It has 900-4 in large numbers on each side.

what engine? small block or big block? if its a big block then its a 727 for sure.

The engine is a 440. From the pics in the link it looks to be the 727.

If its a big block (and the 440 is most certainly a big block) then the only option is the 727.  With the smallblock, most of them had 904's but 340's from that era had the 727.
Without question though, if yours was behind a 440 it's a 727.

The transmission part number is stamped in the drivers side of the case just above the pan gasket, after 40+ years the trans might not be the original.

Its not the original engine or trans, the car was originally a 318 car. Its definatly a 727 after looking at the identification pics. It has 2466900 stamped on the drivers side above the pan gasket.

that number does not correlate with any transmissions that i know of.  may want to re-look that number to ensure those are the exact numbers that are stamped.  sometimes it takes me 3 looks at it to get it right.

A 2466xxx part number is consistent with the '65 model year which would have been a cable shift trans. Does the trans have an external shift lever?
