How long do you believe classic Chargers will be around before they vanish?

I'm talking about the classic 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens.  When I ask that question I mean how long until they become trully extinct?  How long before the only way you can see a Charger is in historical photos.  Accidents happen and we've seen posts on this very board about classic Chargers being destroyed in accidents.  We see topics of classic Chargers rusting away in a barn or field.  Many of you on here own a classic Charger, do you ever wonder what will become of it long after you're gone?

One hundred years from now do you believe someone will still be driving around or at least own a classic 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen Charger?

Sorry if this is an out there topic but I was just wondering.

I'm sure that within 25 years it wil be illegal to drive them on public roads..so they will end up in museums....

I'm not sure about being illegal to drive....I kinda doubt that considering how many restoration parts/suppliers/companies would be out of business if that were to happen.  Another thing to consider is exactly how many people own classic cars in the world....not just talking Mopar, but GM Ford, AMC.....etc.  Another thing to consider is....how many classic cars are actually on the road as opposed to newer "tree hugger" cars.  I think that making a law like that would be very communistic.   But...now the question of how long until their extinction??  Well....I wouldn't give it too much longer.  Unfortunately, the Mopars will go first, considering how much it costs to restore a Mustang, which is relatively cheap.  The Pontiacs (GTO) would probably be next on the list of extinction.  I dunno, but probably 50 years from now.....seeing a Mopar would probably be as likely as seeing Haley's comet......not often at all.  I'm not counting import cars either....just American muscle/classics.

If the environmental wackos get there way I believe old cars will not be allowed to be driven on roads except to a car show and that's it. Then again there are too many rich/important car collectors in high places that love these cars, so I don't see it happening any time soon.

Look at the Barrett-Jackson auction, most of those people who attend are wealthy and some have lots of influence, I don't think they are going to let laws get passed that prevent them from driving their cars.  :Twocents:

Illegal? maybe, possibly. There are some pretty obsessive folks out there who hate the gasoline car with a passion. And common sense and "live and let live" is being run out of town right now. And the "group think" that has emerged is insane and irrational, but its here. These folks also vote, so yeah, the automobile might be outlawed for "the greater good".

So be prepared to go underground. Our tribe and our dirty Mopar idols may face extermination sooner than we think. The dark ages may be upon us!

There are 100 year old cars still in existance now so I'm sure there will be Chargers around for a long long time. I'll never live long enough to see them gone.

I don't think they will vanish at all.  You can almost build a new one with all the parts out there.  No one knows how long before laws change that make it to expensive to own?
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I still see 1930s hot rods driving around on nice days.

Dynacorn will be putting more new vintage Chargers onto the earth long before we run out or see them outlawed.

The demand will not come from middle aged guys like us who already have 1 or more vintage Chargers.   It will come from generations of new kids that still want them.  Mostly because they saw them on TV/movies.

Yeah, yeah, keep blaming the fire department for the fire.

68X426

Your "fire" department has its fingerprints all over the fire. Your "fire" department has its own agenda, and it isn't about putting out fires. No profit (or re-election) in that.

The other "fire" department does the same. Your house is still burning down and nobody at the "fire" authority cares about your Mopar parked in your burning garage.  :eek2:

I think there will be examples around for a very very long time.  Eventually, the musclecars will draw the same sort of fascination as the pre-war classics do today.  Unfortunately, I think that before that happens, many of us on here will be too old or too dead to see it.  There are a LOT of these cars still around in spite of the wording on most every for sale ad and auction description out there.
The other unfortunate part is that when that happens, they will be driven about as often as the pre-war stuff is now.
I see a time about 50 or so years away when let's say the 69 Charger gets whittled down to maybe 100 or so nice ones left that they become nothing but garage art.
Of course, if the doomsday theorists are all correct and this is just the beginning of a global economic depression and it's very soon to be followed by the crash of peak oil then all bets are off.  Cars will be obsolete within ten years and we will be killing one another just for food.
Take your pick.  :icon_smile_big:

six-tee-nine

I dont think they will ever bann classic cars from the road, however i believe in another 25 to 30 years we won't see any on the roads no more.

Simply because we all drive electric 'tree hugger style" cars or fuelcell stuff and an IC enginge can't be used anymore since there won't be anymore gas around to keep them running on.....

I don't exacly plan on putting an electric motor in my Charger.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...
