WOW, What a day.....drove my restored 70 charger today.....

After two years in the shop, today I drove my completely rebuilt 70 Charger around the block.  I was giddy as a school girl with a smile I could not wipe off my face.

When I took the car in two years ago, it was a complete rusted out piece of junk with a 318 that barely ran.  It had rats, a rusted gas tank, holes in the floorboard where I watched the ground as we drove.  It was missing the back windshield that just fell out because of the rust around it and the electrical system had gremlins galore.  It had 7-8 different coats of paint on it but so much bondo on doors and rear end that it needed all new metal.

Today, it has a smokin 440 with all the trimmings......the power and growl of the engine is stunning.  The new silver metallic with the black vinyl top look sleek and sexy.  I have never been in a car that had more power, torque, and nastiness.  When we took off from a dead stop, I literally wet my pants as this monster just screamed down the road.

I will post some pictures very shortly and have been putting all of the progress pictures together on a website that I will share shortly.

By the way, the wife just does not understand so this board is the only place I know that this day will be appreciated.  IT IS CHRISTMAS IN SEPTEMBER.....Ho Ho Ho!

Its a great feeling to finally get to drive what you have spent so much time and money on.

You will have a even bigger grin when people take pictures of you and hollar at you while your going down the road.

Congradulations!

Yeah my wife may be the biggest obstacle to me doing a restoration, but I'll cross that road when I come to it

Here are some pictures.  I will take some more this weekend when I can get it outside again in the sunshine.

Very cool and congratulations. It's an awesome feeling isn't it? I've never had to wait around for one to be restored, but driving the beast for the first time after purchasing is just as good. Car looks great. You gonna put the wiper motor back in?

Very nice car. :2thumbs: Tell me you didn't drive it without a brake booster/master cylinder though. :o

dspaulding70

Thanks for all of the positive feedback!

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS:

No, it is not my shop.  The place is called Cool Cars here in Austin which only specializes in classic vehicle restorations.
No, not crazy enough to drive it without the booster.....we had to replace it because it was not working properly.
The wiper motor is being rebuilt and should be in early next week.
