Head gasket direction?

Hey guys, here's a dumb question. Does it matter which way I put the blue head gaskets on my 440? They fit either way.
Also on my Felpro gaskets there is a "R1" stamped on the top of the gaskets. My old gaskets had "R2" on them. Is there a difference?
