I've said this in the forum before....so let me paint a clear picture.  I bought a 440 HP engine recently which was yanked out of a sheriff patrol car.   Carb to oil pan....everything was there except the alternator.  Transmission included!!!  And running!!!  of course I tore it down for freshening....but I got the whole nine yards for.......200 bucks.   Not saying you'll find a sweet deal like that.....but I think it's a little closer to the ballpark figure as opposed to 4000 dollars.....that's WAY too much

Just curious, maybe a little off topic, but I'd like to hear opinions, experiences, as to what a rebuilt 440 should cost ?
What are the prices and "where" ?
Only wimps wear Bowties !

what do you want as far as "rebuilt"??

to stock specs??  Autozone can get you a long block (crank to heads) for 1200-1700

alot of room to go up or down from there depending on how much work you do and what the end result is gonna be

kinda like a paint job, MAACO can do the car for $1000-$3000,

alot of room to go up or down from there depending on how much work you do and what the end result is gonna be
