My yahoo messenger quit working the other day. Something about windows found error and needs to close...I did chkdsk, defragmented it, still doesn't work. I've uninstalled program and now it won't let me install it. Not sure what would be next step. Any ideas from you guys who are computer/software smart, I know there's a few of you out there

Go into Windows Explorer and completely remove the directory the program was installed in.

While re-installing, try changing the path that the program installs on.

The reason for this, is sometimes even after you "uninstall" programs like this, files/directories are left behind which will actually interfere with future installs.

I always found it amusing that you can REMOVE a program from your system , and 6 months later re-install it and it'll "remember" all of your settings.  :slap:

And unfortunately, you must do this manually.

I had to do a reinstall of a Windows 2000 system at work one day because the OS was corrupt due to a virus. I did the "format" and reinstall, got it loaded and up and running.. I went online later that day and got the "Welcome back, __________" on a site I always go to...    I knew at that point that nothing was ever REALLY gone!!
