Man, sometimes it's hard to believe, but it's been 19 years since Stevie boarded that helicopter to the big gig in the sky.
I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the moment I heard of his death.

It actually hurt me.

I still listen to his recordings often.....
He can never be replaced.

I feel bad that I lost track of the date.

I remember where I was, too. Driving home from my brother's place up north. Heard it n the radio.

I got to see him live twice. Simply amazing. I *might* still have my ticket stub somewhere as I try to keep all that kind of stuff.  :shruggy:

I've got all the CDs and DVDs I have ever come across.

I've also got a few books about him, including one that I've never cracked the spine on...

It's still wrapped in it's shipping material. I will read it one day, though.

Every once in a while, I'll come across some piece of memorabilia that I just have to have.
The latest was a pair of watches with SRV on the face. They were $10 watches - likely sold at places with names ending in mart, but they are licensed by the estate and I had just never, ever seen them before. So, I got 'em.

Probably the craziest was the complete set of ROCKCARDs - Like hockey cards for rock stars - I got the set because SRV is included. I've never broken the seal on the set to find out. The set is sealed in shrink wrap - in two bundles.  One bundle has a Kip Winger card on top. The other has Andrew Eldritch on top (who?). They both have a Tico Torres card on the bottom - different cards. :D

I do want to get my hands on ANY of the diecast models with SRV on them. They seem hard to find or are a little crazy in price. I guess I just need to find noe at the right moment - when I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket.

And trying to play guitar like him has made me a much better guitar player. I still can't play like him, but just the effort of trying improved things imeasurably. Heck, I'd still say I can't really play well at all, but compared to where I was..

Great artist.
Love to listen. :2thumbs:

I was extremely fortunate once when I got to see him play right down the street from my house... or should i say "almost" got to see him.

We use to have this festival in our town every year... you know, arts and crafts, that sort of stuff. The event would last all weekend and end with a big beer/music festival under a tent. This particular year some guy named Stevie Ray Vaughan was playing. No one knew who he was at that time, but the flyer said his band played blues, so we went.

It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen... As soon as Stevie and the boys took the stage you could see the crowd just looking at them like WTF are these guys suppose to be. About 2 seconds later Stevie struck a string and began to play... I don't think he got 2 notes into the first song when all of a sudden everyone, and I mean everyone was standing on their chairs! People were rushing the stage just trying to get a glimpse of this guy. It was incredible!!! I've never seen people get so instantaneously excited about something like that again.

Of course, I never really did get to see him play that evening because of the crowd and the fact that I am not 9 feet tall. I did get to see him backstage however, say hello and let him know how much we enjoyed the show. I will always remember that evening...

He was definitely the real deal, the real genuine article, a true one of kind, once in a lifetime artist :2thumbs:

He was one of the greats no doubt about it. Really enjoyed his music but I must say the radio stations played and played his music until they wore it out. To the point that if I never heard another one of his songs it would be ok.

You are absolutely correct Brock.
Every day I hear somebody say how fast time goes by. Yet it seems well all do our bit to wish it away.
In a little over twenty years I'll be 70.
I've already outlived SRV by a considerable amount.

I have noticed the older I get the faster time goes by. Seems like when I was 22 and the weekend came I had more time then I knew what to do with.
