Anybody know what this part is? I found it in the box of parts that came with my new project-a '69 500. I don't remember seeing anything like this when I did my '69 R/T several years ago. It's made of sheet metal, and about 4-1/2" wide by 5" long.  :shruggy:

Thanks.

by the way, here's a pict of the car for those interested... :icon_smile_big:

Center brace for the front valance?

Rolling_Thunder

I do not remember seeing said part anywhere - maybe a 500 only part for the grille ?

No, that brace is welded to the valance on '69s...

QuoteI do not remember seeing said part anywhere - maybe a 500 only part for the grille ?

I think I have everything for the grille. Just can't figure out where this thing goes... :scratchchin:

Daytona R/T SE posted that picture, and while it does look similar, his piece was part was a section of a brace that he fabricated. This piece is definately not an inner fender brace.

QuoteHow big is it? and also where did you find the part at?

Its about 4-1/2" wide and about 5" long. It's pretty thin sheet metal. I found it in a box in the back seat, so who knows if it's even off this car. But this is the only piece that I can't ID, and there wasn't any other junk with the car, so I figure it must have come off it somewhere...

I really don't think it's a 500 specific part, thats why I posted this in the regular forum this time around. But it got moved back here. :shruggy:

Ghoste

The easiest way to find out what it is, is to just throw it away.  Then it will be guaranteed to be something important that is difficult to find.

To clarify my previous post, The part I made is in the first picture below.

The second picture shows my part in place on the UPPER inner fender brace near

the radio antenae hole in the TOP of the fender.

The third picture is the mystery part in question.

I think someone fabricated a repair piece for one of your fenders just like I did.

Stick your head up under your fenders and see if one of them is rusted out in this

area.

Then draw your own conclusions... :scratchchin:

MoparManJim

Bingo! I think we have a winner. That sure does look alot like the same piece design also.

:brickwall: I know thats what it may look like, but that's not it. My piece is very thin, you could squeeze it with one hand. That brace for the fender is much thicker.

I just did, and I was actually suprised to see how similar it was. However, the holes are different sizes and at slightly different angles, and the angle of the 90 degree tab at the end is way off.  And mine aren't rusty.

There is no part number on it.

I do appreciate everyones input, and I'd really like to know what this is.
