in tank fuel pump?

anyone ever read that article on that duster a while back that was a lowbuck pro touring kind of ride? I think he had emblems that said "dust ya" on it? might have been romeo furio's car.

anyway, he modified a stock mopar sending unit and put an in tank pump from a corvette in it. I was wondering if anyone here had done such a thing. looks pretty easy to do and solves two problems:

1. putting the pump low enough so it does not have to "pull" that much
2. the noise.

just thinking out loud.

I am interested in doing this to my charger with a mild 440 in it. my current blue pump is loud. my friends joke that I have a small child in the trunk "crying" when it's on.

quote from the article, cannot load pic, though:

"Steve used a '80's Corvette-style fuel cradle in the tank and welded it to the sending unit, with custom fuel lines feeding and returning through the base - pretty trick. A Ford 5.0-style fuel pump and filter are mounted to the subframe connector for easy access."

has anyone done this?  I really want to try it, but don't know if there any stock type fuel pumps that will feed a mild 440.

Im with you on this one DKN, Ive heard a few suggestions from people on different model fuel pumps to use. Someday i would like to build a stroker motor with an injection setup like the pro flow which ive heard good things about. Your right though, i figured more people would have done this with there electric pumps

it is easy to do , the problem is that most in tank pumps are designed for high pressure EFI systems with 55 psi or so & will need to be regulated back down to 5-6 psi to work with carbs

do you think regulating it down that much would be a problem?  maybe a reg with a bypass return to the tank?

maybe , just don`t restrict the flow or you will have a bigger problem
