So what do you think of Scott Stapp minus Creed?

I've heard a couple songs and it sounds a bit washed out, ie., missing the edge. Like Creed when they just woke up.

Orange_Crush

Meh...I got a little tired of Creed after a while.  Stapp's got a great set of pipes, but all his songs seem to sound the same after a while.

I was never fond of the Stapp infection with or without Creed.

Too much of a Jesus complex in all of his interviews and especially so in videos and pix.

Not denying his ability to sing one bit though.

On the flip side of that, Celine Dion is blessed with an amazing voice, but I can't stand her either.

Something about them just annoys the h*ll out of me.

I'll take Mark Mothersbaugh's voice over Mr. Stappylococcus' any day. :D

Dying was a great career move for Morrison.

Yup...hell, their most popular song wasn't even written by him.

Besides, his poetry was absolute garbage...one of my professors once referred to it as "doggerel" which is perhaps the worst insult to a poet.

I wouldn't go that far...it has SOME merit.  Mostly as a tool for reading yourself to sleep.

By "Jesus complex" he means that Scott Stapp thinks he's Jesus.

I guess I should have asked this: Do you mean he thinks he's Jesus, or he just sings about Jesus too much? Because I understand the first one, but the second one just smacks of intolerance.

I liked the Creed sound (created by the guitarist and drummer) never really cared for Scott.  Did anybody catch him singing the nation anthem for the Homestead race this Sunday?  He totally screwed up the "Land of the free and Home of the Brave" ending.  He forgot the Words!!!!!!!!  kinda mumbled it through three or four words then picked up on Home of the Brave.

Very bad

Bill, it was most definitely the 1st one.

I've got nothing against Christian music and will admit to a Petra tape sometime back in the mid "80s. :D

My problem is his Jesus complex.

Take for instance the outstretched crucifixion pose he was always copping in the Creed vids.

Even in his interviews he was way too self-important.

Signing about God/Jesus/The Holy Ghost (not you Everett) is great.

No issues with that at all.

It's Mr. Stapp's personal idiosyncrasies that makes me dislike him.

I agree - he butchered the national anthem last sunday.  I realize that the song is not that easy to sing, but he is supposed to be a professional singer.  It seems like NASCAR cannot get anyone to sing the anthem properly.  Everyone want to "jazz" it up with their own personal touch.  Trace Adkins (spelling?) and Josh Turner have been the only decent singers I have heard sing the anthem lately.

I think Stapp should suck on a throat lozenger.   He is a decent entertainer, but doesn't seem to remember the lyrics to our National Anthem.

As far as good performances... I thought the trumpet player a couple of weeks ago was great.

I never really cared for their music so I never paid attention to him...didn't know he was like that.

Well, since we're on the subject, here are some really good groups in the Christian rock genre.

Christian alternative/punk:
Olivia the Band
Switchfoot
Relient K
Plankeye
Bleach
The Elms

Christian Rock:
Falling Up - edgy
Sonic Flood
Day of Fire & Josh Brown - this guy has a GREAT voice
Building 429
Plumb - chick singer has great voice
Audio Adrenaline
Sanctus Real

And the mainstream Christian stuff: (a lot of these bands are played on regular stations - you probably don't even realize it)
Jars of Clay
Third Day
Mercy Me
Newsboys
Life is a highway...

bull

I didn't know Stapp was so arrogant, but then I usually try to ignore the personal lives of celebrities as much as possible.

I love the song Stars from Switchfoot on their Nothing is Sound album but I listened to all the samples from that CD on Amazon and that was pretty much the only good song on it. They were on Jay Leno the other night playing Stars and while the band was awesome, their singer wasn't so good live. Better than Ashley Simpson though. ;)

ChargerBill

I can't believe I missed them...dang.

bull, you'd like these Switchfoot songs:

I Dare You To Move
Erosion
New Way To Be Human
The Shadow Proves The Sunshine

I agree, "Stars" is a great song..."I Dare You To Move" is their previous top hit. It was played on mainstream radio stations and made the Smallville soundtrack.
Life is a highway...

Spartan

Creed was pretty good on their 1st 2 CD's.  The 3rd one was kind of bland so I figured they were done after that one.  If I am not mistaken, Scott Stapp grew up in a very strict religious home (maybe dad was a minister). Have not heard his new stuff yet.
Over?! its not over until we say it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!...Hell no! and its not over now!..(Germans? Pearl Harbor?...shut up, he's on a roll)

Oh yea. Now that you mention it I've heard Dare You to Move on the radio a couple hundred times.

BTW, Petra is still intact but I heard they are in the midst of their final tour. I saw them once here in Portland with Josh McDowell. I also saw Kings X probably 18 yrs ago with Billy Squire. I also went to a Stryper concert after the Against the Law CD was released. Mike Sweet stopped midsong about 1/3 of the way into the show to break up a fight about 30 feet from the stage. That was a good night.

For those that like metal, but don't want all the BS so often associated with the genre, check out a band called Embodyment.

Well, metal might be a stretch.

Probably more emo-core, but still an awesome band.

They are on a label called Solid State that is based out of Seattle I believe, which signs mainly Christian acts.

Definitely worth the time to check it out.

I had the [dis] pleasure of touring with Greed, aka Creed on the 2000-2001 World tour in support of the album Human Clay. To put it mildly, Stapp is a Tool. A classic type "A" personality. The other guys in the band, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips & Brian Marshall were very easy going, regular guys.  If you liked the sound of Creed, but didn't care for the vocal stylings of Mr. Stapp,  Check out a band called  "Alter Bridge". The other 3 members of Creed formed this band after Mr. Stapp left them high & dry. :icon_smile_cool:

I've always had the "guilty pleasure" of liking Creed, and I really enjoy Alter Bridge.   The only song I have heard from Scott's new album has been the one that has been airing on the video channels.   I have to admit I like it.   As far as christian bands go, I grew up listening to Resurection Band (also known as Rez Band), Petra, The Daniel Band, Barnabus, Saint, Stryper, and many more I can't remember.   My uncle currently plays guitar and sings backup for the christian band Ultimatum.   Their website is www.ultimatum.net if anyone is interested.   They are the typical old school speed metal, and they don't intend to change EVER!!  Check them out they are pretty good.

Not too shabby for that stuff. As for Creed I like them but, I like Alter Bridge too. I will after a while Creed was sounding the same. Alter Bridge sounds like Creed but, you know its different. As for Scott minus Creed, its too soft and don't much care for it. I also like Petra and have seen them in concert. There was some other groups I liked back when I was a teen and still listen too Christian music wise. They no longer exsist I believe but it's not bad music. Kind of a Bluesy type Christian Music.

What exactly is girl music? Girls like it so guys are not allowed to? I like Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson so does that mean I'm a girl or something? Do you have a problem with girls or women? Howard Says Scott Stapp Is An Asswipe. 12/01/05. 10:15am

During the news Robin brought up a story about Scott Stapp, formerly from the band Creed, who was apparently inebriated when he appeared on Spike TV's Casino Cinema show which Howard's girlfriend hosts. Howard said he heard the story from Beth who told him that Scott ended up cursing out Beth saying that ''bimbos like her'' don't go for him and stuff like that. Beth told Howard that she had the worst day at work because of that. Howard got kind of pissed because the people she works for didn't do anything about it. No one said a word to the guy because, as Howard said, ''they're all maggots.''
Gary said he heard that Scott was telling Beth that the only reason she's with someone like Howard is because he's got money. Gary had been in contact with Scott a couple of weeks ago and thought that he was a fan of the show. It turns out he's just a jerk and he was a ''jack off'' to Beth. Beth is fine with it all and asked him not to bother trying to take care of things his way. If Beth didn't ask him to hold off on that, this would be a whole different story.

Gary also told the guys that Scott wanted to come on the show to kick Dave Grohl's ass because Dave once goofed on him (see my last post)   The two of them apparently hate each other. Howard said he heard that Scott was running his hand up Beth's back while he was doing her show and it turns out he's just an asswipe and that's the end of it.

Ralph called in a short time later and said he saw Beth coming home yesterday and she looked really upset by what went on with Scott Stapp. Howard said she asked him not to get all worked up about it so he's going to leave it at that. Robin finished up her news after that....

what a sleazeball
