What would be the best way to find the original engine and trans. for a 69 R/T SE I am in the process of purchasing. It is a 4 speed car and was built Oct. '68 at the St. Louis plant. Should I advertise the whole VIN of the car or just the last six numbers? I don't want to end up with someone restamping a block or transmission and trying to sell it to me as the original.
Any ideas or opinions??

First one I would check with is Galen Govier, he gets a lot of "who has what" info.

It's a long shot.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I would imagine he will need the vin and fender tag rubbing first. How about the 69 Charger Registry? I am planning on registering the car as soon as I get it. That registry seems to be good and very knowledgeable.

I have some pictures. I think i want to wait to post them after I close the deal. I don't want to jinx myself.

I'd put the whole VIN# .   I think guys will be more likely to look at your request, when they are deciphering the VIN tag.

Or a guy might know about a engine that he heard about that came out of a Charger, wherever it used to live, but if you ask if someone knows where Block XYZ123 is, you'll probably get blank stares.

Place an advertisement in Mopar Collectors Guide Magazine maybe, you get 1 free ad a month if you subscribe.

In the meantime i'd spend some time rolling in the grass at mopar shows this year looking under cars for what a unmolested Vin stamp looks like.
After talking with the owners of course. :yesnod:
